Moving to Melbourne soon on a PR Visa

Yeah, better na zone 1 kunin mo para tipid sa pamasahe. Last time I was in Melb for 6 months back in 2010, nasa zone 2 ako so medyo mahal ang transpo. Yung natipid ko sa rent, sa transpo napunta.

Yung CFO lang ba reqt from here? Wala ng iba?

We opened a Savers Acct sa Commonwealth and yung everyday namin nasa NAB...

We will begin applying in the next few days although I am not expecting too much with it as they really prefer that you are in Oz but tingnan natin.

@Shotie May savings din naman ang NAB, tawag sa account ay iSavers. Connected sya sa everyday account so you can transfer money between them much easier. Habang wala pa akong internet via mobile banking lang ako nagbabayad at nagta-transfer so very convenient. [This post is not advertised by NAB. LOL]

I can't really imagine any expat settling down in Dubai. Maganda sya and all but in the end, uwi ka pa rin sa home country or lipat elsewhere, without any pension or anything to depend on but your savings. Dubai is like a beautiful glamorous girl with soul-piercing eyes na hindi mo pwedeng pakasalan, hanggang girlfriend lang kasi napagkasundo na sya sa locals lang.

And yeah, don't forget to pack a document bag which will contain papers you will need in Oz (i.e. birth certificate, marriage certificate, transcript, etc...)

@Shotie definitely sa Aus na po namin gusto mag-settle and I agree 100% with @Metaform. Wala pa po yata akong naka-usap who wants to stay in the Middle East for good. And I always feel that we can never have a "normal" life in Dubai, especially for the kids. So, konting tiis pa po muna dito, and hopefully our big move to Melbourne will be soon.

Regarding job hunting, may mga tawag naman pero waiting lang daw kami pareho ng mga agency recruiter. Tagal magdecide ng clients. May refusal emails din pero oks lang yun dami naman dumarating sa email from seek and indeed and applydirect. Libre naman at hindi nakakapagod ang pag-send ng CVs online ngayon hindi tulad ng dati na nagbibilang ng poste sa paghahanap ng trabaho sa labas. So yun, extended vacation kami ngayon. Unahin ko muna driving license siguro.

Excellent idea na unahin ang drivers license @Metaform - once you have a job, baka mahirapan ka na magkuha ng license...

OT - did you buy a car when you arrived there? just wondering kasi how can you do your driving practice...

^Don't have a car yet. According to Vicroads I can drive with my overseas license for 6 months since the date of my arrival. I still need to do the knowledge test, hazard test and actual driving test in order to get a Victorian full license. I'm reviewing right now for the knowledge test, which consists of 32 questions that can be tried on their website.

Called up some driving schools too to get some actual driving lesson to adjust with the orientation. People drive on the right-hand side of the road in Manila and Dubai so it was never a problem for me then. First time ko sa kaliwa.

Plan kasi is to stay for a while sa isang relative, say mga 1 month before I move to melb then my kids and hubby to go back to Manila muna. If pwede yun, when do I report to Vic govt yung address ko? Reqt kasi yun eh. Report ko ba pag may long term accommodation na ako? O need na to report kahit naka temporary stay isang kaibigan?

Also, while nasa Sydney pwede na ba mag apply for Tax File Number eh sa Melb ako dapat mag work.

This should not be a problem - may forumer dito before na supposedly sa SA sya but she landed and eventually found a job in Sydney...

Yes, you can get your TFN sa Sydney. Eventually when you go to Melbourne, saka ka nalang mag report sa VIC gov't.

We got it via a friend of a friend whom we met during our vacation in Melbourne last year... Mahirap kasi kumuha ng own accommodation sa Melby, more so if you are still new and don't have a job yet.

@Keyar - do you have a drivers license na? by any chance can you be able to advise if VIC Road would be needing an LTO Certification to prove how many yrs is our driving experience?
