NSW RTA Driving Test Tips and Tricks

Sa mga pinoy na nag apply ng NSW license baka naman pwede nyo ishare yung experience nyo with the driving test to get a NSW license. I am converting my PH license to full license and schedule to take the driving test next month.
If you can share the location/test route where you did it plus any tips and tricks like instant fail items, things to avoid, etc.

I have read the road rule handbook guide but I still want to hear to those who experienced it.

Hi @mykdspk! Plan ko din magtake ng driving test dito sa NSW, sa may Rockdale Testing Centre ko magpabook. Have you taken your test already? Musta naman?

Sabi nila mahirap daw pumasa kaya nagtake muna ko ng driving lessons. Para na din maexperience ko magdrive dito. May nadownload ako na file "Testing officer's manual" sa site ng rta http://www.rta.nsw.gov.au/licensing/downloads/licensinghandbooks_dl1.html, parang nakalagay dun yung mga instant fail.

Basta kalma lang kayo during actual driving test saka confident.,seatbelt wag kalimutan kasi instant fail yan.,speed limit., saka wag kayong tatapak sa linya kasi full license kukunin nyo strikto cla sa ganyan.,safe distance yung 3 second rule and yung shoulder check if mag change lane.,practice nyo lang yung exam route 5 times or more para makabisado.,..gud luck!

Sir @barloval, thank you for sharing. During my lessons medyo nakakalimutan ko ngang mag shoulder check, nasanay kasi ko sa pinas na sa side mirror lang tumitingin which is mali daw. Medyo sablay din ako minsan sa speed limit, di ko kasi minsan napapansin na iba na pala yung speed limit dun sa street na dinadaanan ko. Sabi nung instructor ko, dapat daw laging less than 5 km/hr ang speed ko compare sa speed limit, so kung 40 dapat 35 lang. May mga school area din ako na nadadaanan na nkalagay 40 ang limit, pero applicable lang pala sya during school hours.

Here in Melbourne there is a hazard perception test and the actual driving on top of the knowledge test...

you would have to take the Driving Test after taking the DKT.

Hello @faye. Tama si Sir @hotshot, kailangan munang kumuha ng DKT (Computer based exam) para magkaron ka ng Learner Licence.

After kailngan daw magtake ng Driving Test (Actual Test) para magkaron ka ng P1 Licence.

May friend ako sa Melbourne na nagtake pa ng Hazard Pecrception test (computer based ulit) para naman sa P2 License. Tapos Driver Qualification test para full licence.

May nabasa naman ako sa ibang forum and sabi din nung instructor ko na kung may licence ka sa pinas (not sure if Pro/Non Pro dapat), once na pumasa ka sa Driving Test, Full Licence agad yung ibibigay sayo.

Tomorrow punta ko sa RTA rockdale para confirm kung full license na ba talaga then update ko po kayo.

@Code_Blue thanks! ang alam ko kasi pag pumasa na ng theory at actual eh full license na agad bsta more than 3 years na ang license sa pinas.

guys ask ko lng din dapat ba mgtake ng driving exam (theory at actual) bago mgexpired ang 3 month phil licence to get the full licence? tpos pag ngexceed na ng 3 months na d pumapasa eh bbalik sa learners licence? tama ba?

@faye yup tama ka, yun din sabi sakin kanina sa RTA.
P1- less than 12 months
P2- more than 12 months but less than 3 years
Full - more than 3 years

Ang alam ko, allowed tayong magdrive gamit yung Philippine license sa loob ng 3 buwan na dumating sa OZ. Kaya kahit wala pang Learner License, pwedeng magdrive. Since immigrant visa ka, para maconvert yung Philippine License, kailangan magtake muna ng DKT and Driving Test (since wala yata yung pinas sa List nila ng country na exempted sa Driving Test). As per my experience kumuha muna ko ng Learner License para makapagpabook ako sa Driving test. Kung sa 3 months di pa rin pumapasa sa Driving test, yup Learner License ka pa din.

San po pala kayo dito sa Sydney?

Good tip I got from my driving instructor - when scheduling your practical driving exam, piliin niyo yung hindi rush hour. Self-explanatory na lang kung bakit.

Ano ang pinagkaiba ng P1 at P2 at gaano katagal maconvert from P1 to P2 to full? Pag P1 at P2 ba hindi pwede magdrive na walang kasamang holder ng full license? salamat sa makapagshare..

Hey guys I did passed the driving test first time. Took it on Rockdale RTA.. Ok naman ang test. Nag two hour driving lesson ako the same day before my actual driving test.. Nagbigay ng tips yung driving instructor ko and nilibot nya ko sa mga possible route.. Mas ok talaga kung mag driving lesson kasi may mga rules and tips din sila.

@ozzieness ang alam kong pagkakaiba lang naman nung P1 and P2 yung maximum speed limit. 90 sa P1 and 100 km/h sa P2. Base dun sa site ng NSW rta (http://www.rta.nsw.gov.au/licensing/gettingalicence/car/index.html) eto yung steps:

1.Pass the Driver Knowledge Test (DKT) - get your learner licence.

2.Hold your learner licence at least 12 months and complete 120 hours of supervised driving practice including 20 hours of night driving (for drivers under the age of 25 only).

3.Pass the Driving Test - progress to a Provisional Licence - stage 1 (P1 licence).

4.Hold your P1 licence for a minimum of 12 months.

5.Pass the Hazard Perception Test - progress to Provisional Licence - stage 2 (P2 licence).

6.Hold your P2 licence for a minimum of 24 months.

7.Pass the Driver Qualification Test (DQT) - progress to a full licence.

Check mo na din yung site nila para dun sa full restrictions of each license class.

Congrats @mykdspk! Ok lang po bang magshare kayo kung ano yung mga minor mistakes na pinalalampas nila? San po kayo pinagdrive nung driving officer nyo? TIA

Thanks @Code_Blue, ang importante eh lagi kang lilingon every intersection/turning left/right. pati na din sa mga pedestrian. Pag lilingon ko iforward mo yung katawan mo then check shoulder para obvious at alam ng examiner na you did turn your head.

Ang mga road na dadaanan mo usually 60kph (Princes highway, grand parade, bay street). Then mga quiet street where you'll ask to do the kerb side parking at reverse parallel parking. Ang pinaka importante mo malaman eh yung 40kph zone along bay street before the grand parade intersection. Lagi pinapadaanan daw yun kasi 40kph lang sya once lumampas ka kahit 41kph instant fail agad. Hindi sya school zone area pero 40kph sya. Buti na lang sinabihan ako dun ng driving instructor right before my exam. During my practice exam with instructor lagi ko nakakalimutan na 40kph area pala sya buti na lang sa actual exam naalala ko. :-)

I also passed my driving test the first time! Akala ko failed ako kasi medyo alanganin yung ibang liko ko dahil may kotse na padating and I did it twice. Pero sabi nung Officer minor lang naman daw yun kaya minus points lang. Pinadaan nya din ako dun sa area na yun and tama ka that's a 40 km/h zone. May mga area din na nagadjust ako sa 40 km/h kasi school hour yung test ko..

Thanks @mykdspyk! malapit lang pala kayo samin. Sa may Arncliffe naman kami a few minutes walk from the station. Nga pala matagal ka na ba dito sa OZ? May nabasa kasi ko sa ibang post mo na nakabili ka na dati ng car then may bago ka ng sasakyan ngayun. Bakit ngayun ka lang nagdriving test?

Yeah matagal na ko dito, 3 years+.. I entered AU year 2010 naka 457 visa ako. Then after 2+ years I applied for PR. I am already driving here before using my PH license, allowed naman kasi since temporary resident lang ako nun. Nung ma grant PR then saka ko pina convert sa NSW license yung PH license ko.

Ah ok Sir! PR na po pala kayo ngayun? Galing.. Kung di po masamang magtanong san po kayo nagwowork? Baka pwede nyo kong kunin driver??.. Naghahanap pa din kasi ko ng work and nirequire ako nung isang company na inaaplyan ko na magfull license bago magproceed sa next hiring process nila..

Thanks @faye! Nag 2 hours lesson ako dun sa isang instructor na nirefer sakin pero di ko nagustuhan yung turo nya, kaya naghanap ako ng iba. Nakita ko sa net yung 1st class driving school, may package sila na 5 hours and yun ang kinuha ko. And dahil wala akong car na gagamitin sa test, kumuha ko ng 3 hours package.

@mykdspk Sir PR visa din ako, pero ang main applicant is my wifey. Nag aaply ako as Telecoms/fiber designer o kaya electrical designer kasi sa design halos yung experience ko. Pero wala pa ding mahanap na work, kaya pinag iisipan ko kung magtake ako ng CCNA exams para makalipat sa Networking. Ngayun naghahanap muna din ko ng kahit anong part time job para naman may panggastos sa araw araw.

thanks for the info..after reading the link, the way I understand is like this: if you're holder of P1 or P2 you can drive even without accompanied by an an australian full license holder, and the only difference is speed limit of 90 and 100kph? and if you're 25 years old or older, you will proceed to P1 right away without needing to pass the Learners?
hope someone could enlighten more..

@ozzieness, tama ka dun sa difference between restriction.

Ang pagkakaalam ko, even if your more than 25 years old, you will still need to take the DKT exam to have a learner license. After passing the DKT exam, pwede ka ng magtake ng driving test to have a P1 license. Kung meron kang PH license (more than 3 years), at naipasa mo yung driving test, full license agad yung ibibigay sayo.

Pero kung below 25 years old ka, required yung 120 hours supervised driving at after 12 months ka pa pwedeng magtake ng driving exam. Yung step sa post ko is para dun sa walang driver license sa pinas.
