Hi, we are on 457 Visa and we will be flying from Manila to Melbourne. I know that OEC is a requirement, but please advise if Manila Immigration requires a PDOS (Pre-Departure Orientation Seminar) for us to be allowed to leave Philippines.
Anybody here have experienced flying from Manila to OZ on 457/482 or Temporary Visa.

NO, only emigrants settling permanently abroad are required to attend PDOS. 457/482/489 except for 190/189 visas need not to attend the seminar.

Hi fgs thank you so much for your comment. So on departure from Philippines, we only need to present the OEC sa officer. Pinipresent din po ba ang visa?

Not necessarily immigrants boss. Basta your purpose of travel is for employment, dadaan ng PDOS. Regardless of which country.

@fgs i disagree po as PDOS is required for Filos going out from the country on semi permanent basis. The purpose is to orient outgoing persons on the dos and donts and culture of the country where they are going to. its a requirement for OFWs going to Sg/Saudi etc i dont see the difference of visa 457

You can check the website..I left the country on a 489 visa and was not required to attend PDOS. i even flown to manila to attend sana just to make sure na di ako mahaharang sa immigration but they did not let me attend. For Australia, only PR visas like 190 and 189 are required to attend. 489 is a provisional visa with pathway to PR after 4 years( knowing na magaapply talaga ng PR ang mga 489) pero di talaga required mag attend. They might require you when you go home na PR ka na pero pwede magbayad ka na lang without attending the seminar para lang makuha ang sticker. Whats the purpose anyway kasi youve been living in AU for years. Alam mo naman sa atin minsan di consistent ang immi...kaya nong umuwi mga pamangkin ko, pinakuha ko lang ng pdos sticker( bayad na kang without attending) just to make sure na walang aberya sa immigration paglabas ng Ph.

A. What is the Pre-departure Orientation Seminar (PDOS) in CFO? Filipino emigrants or those leaving the country to settle permanently abroad are required to register with the Commission on Filipinos Overseas (CFO), and attend the Pre-Departure Orientation Seminar (PDOS) or Peer Counseling Session. Topics discussed include travel regulations, immigration procedures, cultural differences, settlement concerns, employment and social security concerns, and rights and obligations of Filipino migrants.
The PDOS is for emigrants aged 20-59 years old who are petitioned by their parents, siblings, or immediate relatives, including independent applicants. The Peer Counseling Program is for emigrants aged 13-19 years old.

Thats how they defined PDOS in the CFO website so i assumed since 457 visa holder will not live permanently in Australia, the seminar is not required. Better @giegie ask directly CFO to avoid confusion.
@fgs Mejo vague yung pagkakastate sa website kung gnyan nga. Kasi kahit sinong ofw (not only migrants) will require PDOS. Papunta ng UAE, SG, UK, wherever, basta employment, dadaan sa pdos e.
457 yung kasamahan ko dito dumating last year. Dumaan sila PDOS. Maybe they changed the rules? Im not really sure.

Thank you all for the advice. I shall email now CFO and clarify/inquire whether this is a requirement. I shall let you know of their reply so that this will also serve as guidance for the rest of us.

@dy3p The Emigrant Service Officer from CFO has replied to my email and confirmed that there is no need for PDOS if the Visa is just temporary regardless of which country you will be going to. Kelangan lang ito pag Emigrants with Permanent Visa. 457 and 482 are temporary, so no need na ang PDOS.
Thanks for all your help. We can now confidently look forward to our flight.
