Hi, I'm looking for any tips or ideas with regards to a job interview. May telephone interview kasi ako next week for a job in WA.

@merc2013: hello po. Ang masasabi ko lang, it's double the effort in trying to understand what they are asking over the phone. I had to strain my ears, sa totoo lang!

Unang-una, heavily accented sila. Pangalawa, mahirap as it is, makipag-usap over the phone kahit nga nagtatagalog kayo pareho. Dagdagan mo pa english with their aussie accent. It can get quite tricky.

This for me, was the most challenging part talaga: trying to understand what they're saying! Ang ginawa ko, pag hindi ko talaga gets kung ano tanong, sinasabi ko na lang "pardon me". The rest of the time, dedma ko na pinagsasabi nung interviewer. Aussies have heavy accents mayt. I think it will help if you try to get used to hearing them talk before the actual interview. Syempre, di ko ginawa to. I didn't realize this at that time.

Having said all that though, here's wishing you luck! Kayang-kaya yan. The fact is, they've set aside time to interview you. It just means they are already interested in you.

Thanks donking and Nadine. Just want to share the email I received from my possible employer "The PD has been developed and is with HR and Migration. The ATR was signed off today (Authority to recruit).

Next step would be a phone interview maybe next week? What times and days would be free?"

I'm thinking the interview will be just formality. Just being positive that I will have an offer after passing the medical...

Hi merc! Be confident lang and prepare din. Review your resume. :-) greet them and try to speak slowly so they can understand you. Once the interview is finished and you're about to say goodbye, thank them for takin the opportunity to call you and that you are looking forward to connect with them again.. Leave them an impression that you are polite, not overbearing but at the same time, you have the skills that they need for the position. Eto lang din mga tips sakin ng recruiter... Research also about the company and ask about the company's culture din. Do not bring up the salary unless they ask you. Be honest lang din in the interview. :-) hope this helps! Ano klaseng tono ginagamit niyo pag kausap mga Aussies? Are they as frank and direct as their western counterparts? Or dapat imaintain yung formal tone (parang satin sa Pinas)

^Hmm depende pa rin sa kausap. hehhehe iba iba mga nakakausap ko. Recruiters sila in Australia pero ung iba sa knila galing UK. hehehehe Some are very polite, helpful and makwento. Others are very straightforward. Sa tingin ko medyo dapat pakiramdaman pa rin. hehehe

Yung ibang nasa Au na baka mas may insights pa about this.

ask ko lang po. dun po ba sa actual interview, i mean ung personal na interview na, is it one on one or panel and normal na ginagawa nila for applicants

Hi wynx. It could be one to one or panel, mostly for a panel kasama ang HR representative and one rep. from the dept. or section na inaplayan mo. You can also ask who will conduct the interview.

ang accents na naencounter ko is the cultivated Oz accent(less strong) and the broad accent (typical Queensland accent). Mas challenging yung pangalawa kesa dun sa una. Sample would be "to die" but actually saying is "today".

Sa palagay ko ok lang itanong. I already did on mine and was told 4 names to do my interview.

maybe not the particular names but the position/job titles of those who will conduct the interview.. para atleast alam mo kung anung mga possible questions (technical, personality/hr related, situational...etc)..

Ahh ok...most of the blokes I have talked to are straight forward and informal kasi hehe...parang wala sa opisina haha

Ako naka-suit nung interview ko both sa recruiters at sa company mismo. So bring your suit pag-lipat nyo sa Aussie. :-)

I saw some interviewees naka shorts at polo-shirt pag ini-interview sa mga recruitment office. Para tuloy overkill yung suit and tie ko nung na-interview ako, hehe.

hello. just want to share my interview experiences. by default i usually go with suit and tie but lately ive read about something called cultural "fit" factor to be hired. i was right. one agent gave me a tip that it is important to research about the co. and what they usually wear. she advised me to just wear smart casual.came interview time, i saw other interviewees wearing smart casuals.
there really is something about culture fit as one factor to be hired. my fellow officemate in the phils. who is now based and working here in Au confirmed this as she saw a list from the hr pertaining to this factor.
kaya yun, it is also a key to know this aside from competence.

Just had my phone interview, an Aussie and a Brit. Mabilis yung taga oz, di ko gaanong na gets with his accent. I'm familiar with the brits.

So far it went alright and well. What's next kaya??? Di ko natanong...

Can you guys share yung mga topics na puwede ibring up sa first interview na hindi nakaka-offend sa mga Aussies? I like to think mas straight forward sila kesa sa ating mga Asians hehe
