YeliboyYeliboy MelbournePosts: 12Member
edited July 2014 in Study and Training Visa
Hi guys, I'm currently on 573 and it will be my first time to lodge my income tax return this July. Anyone knows what are the steps to lodge income tax returns? Though I already visited the ATO website, I just wanna know your thoughts and experiences. Thanks

You guys just need to log in the ATO website; input the numbers derived from your PAYG, your bank accounts and your medical insurance. Input any deductions if applicable then submit online.

Mabilis lang, I submitted less than 2 wks ago and last Friday I got the bill from the gov't for me to pay an additional $200++ in tax... Ehehehe!! :)

i don't think basta basta ka lang maka claim - when you do your tax meron naman mga clickable links that will shed light into your questions...

Having said that, my wife did make a claim worth around $2K for her CPA studies. Ayus na rin yun, mga roughly $600 worth of tax credits yun.

    Yup, June 30 cut-off...

First $18K kasi ay free of tax so ayun if you started say sa April and assuming you earned $10K for 2 months til end June and they deducted around $3K as tax - when you file your tax return, ibabalik itong $3K na tax which was deducted from you. Reason being that your income was below the tax-free threshold.

May pambili na ng 60 inch 3D TV... :)

Refund mo will be based on how accurate payroll does their monthly tax deduction...

    That's it!

And if konti lang refund mo, that is a good thing since you are not paying more than what you really ought to pay the government. Diba?

Mate, I don't think we have a lot to declare as part of our deduction apart from education ni misis... :)

As we are without kids, without an investment property...

Basically it is just, earnings from salary, bonus and earning from bank interest ang inflow namin.

Please correct me if I may have missed out anything to claim. :)

Hi @TasBurrfoot, or any other forumers, just want to ask your opinions...

My company here in malaysia still wants me to work even though andyan na ko
sa AU for another 6 months or so siguro...work Online. (its not that because malupit ako, wala na lang kasing programmers na natitira hehe)

Any idea if i declare this as my personal income tax in AU?
the reason that im asking is para may record na sana ako
and since may makukuha naman ako siguro sa centrelink ng benefits like family tax benefits,
it is better to give something back to the govt

    Thanks

Hi @TasBurrfoot, or any other forumers, just want to ask your opinions...

My company here in malaysia still wants me to work even though andyan na ko
sa AU for another 6 months or so siguro...work Online. (its not that because malupit ako, wala na lang kasing programmers na natitira hehe)

Any idea if i declare this as my personal income tax in AU?
the reason that im asking is para may record na sana ako
and since may makukuha naman ako siguro sa centrelink ng benefits like family tax benefits,
it is better to give something back to the govt

    Thanks
Suggest you get an accountant to help you on this...

    All the best! :)

    @TasBurrfoot thanks anyway...

@JCsantos I could opt to that suggestion. its just that at some point if kukuha kami ng unit, or apply for car loan wherein they require some proof of income,
will it suffice if I can just show bank statement na credited yung salary outside AU?
    Thanks

@danyan2001us in the end kumuha na rin ako ng accountant kasi apat ung companies ko for the yr dahil sa mga odd jobs :D nxt yr for sure mag.oonline na ako kasi tinuruan din ako ng accountant kng paano mglodge online. hehe

hi @dakz just wondering since your case of many odd jobs is same as my partner's case, she basically had 1 steady casual job but about 10 or more one-time gigs / stints. does this type of situation really required an accountant when you did yours?

also, we haven't tried to lodge via ATO before, this will be our first time to try.
