@KillerQT related to your question is,

mayroon ba dito sa PinoyAu who applied for citizenship but was rejected?
@IslanderndCity - thing with citizenship application is that unlike applying for PR, this is pretty much straight forward as long as you can be able to (1) satisfy residency, (2) keep yourself out of trouble (i.e. no criminal record) and (3) pass the examination.

Nothing too much to worry here I guess although I could be wrong...

@KillerQT so far, I don't see any website link indicating your income & contributions to Au will affect citizenship application...

Sa pagkakaintindi ko dito is the residency starts with your initial entry but you must not be out of Oz for more than 12 months during the 4 years stay and 90 days prior the 12 moth application. Tama bang sabihin na mas maganda na mag initial entry agad as soon as possible if you intend to be a citizen soon?

@wizardofOz I think we're on the same boat here. So it is a requirement na kumuha padin ng COC sa PH and/or PCC sa SG if you had time spent in any one country for more than 90 days after you fulfilled the IED .

So let's say we fulfilled our IED this second week of Feb and stayed in SG until end of March then move to the Philippines after then go to Oz on the 1st week of June, do we still need to get COC & PCC or hindi na since we didn't spent more than 90 days on each country unless otherwise they require us?

Last question, does the same process also applies to children?

hi guys, I thought this article from acacia-au.com might shed light on this topic.. :)

    Australian Citizenship
    Permanent Residents - After 1 July 2007

If you obtain your permanent residence after 1 July 2007, you will need to meet the following requirements to become an Australian citizen:

You have lived lawfully in Australia for at least 4 years; and
You have lived in Australia for at least 12 months as a permanent resident

Note that if you have spent more than 12 months in the last 4 years outside Australia or 3 months in the last 12 outside Australia, you will no longer meet the residence requirements for citizenship.

It's also important to realise that only 12 months of residence as a permannent resident is required. As a result, you can count up to 3 years of residence in Australia as a temporary residence towards the citizenship requriements. For example, if you have spent several years in Australia on a student or 457 visa, this can be counted towards the 4 year residence requirement.
Note that you do not automatically qualify for Australian citizenship in this way, you must make an application for citizenship.

Kaya the scenario simulated before was:

If your IED was last Feb 2015, your BIG move is May 2016 yet, your 5-year visa expiry is Aug 2019 pa naman, then as early as May 2019 (NOT Feb 2019), you are qualified to apply citizenship dahil you've completed the lawful 4-year residency requirement from May 2015 (NOT Feb 2015) to May 2019

    Any further insights?

@IslanderndCity yeah i think pwede ka yata apply May 2019...you can always use the citizenship eligibility calculator na nasa website...basta prior to applying, you should have at least 4 years residence(from your initial entry) and should not be out of Australia for a total of 1 year in the past four years and not more than 3 months prior to applying

So bottomline pala, kahit more than 1 year ka outside Au after IED, no problem sa 4-year residency requirement, ma-delay nga lang ang pagqualify mo to apply for citizenship.

    Correct?
was just curious on ur case na initial entry feb 2015 san po nka base ung may 2015? hehe bumalik kaba ng au sir ng may 2015? para sakin if ied mo is feb 2015 u can apply as early as feb 2019. i understand d argument on 'lived' lawfully is diferent from entering au and leaving again. kc what im thnking (which im also going to analyze in my case of IED , big move , apply citizenship timeline)..how will they verify na ung date na un is actually ur big move? and that such date is d lawful residence date and not d ied date...

kc was jst thinking if in my case my IED will be apr 2016 and il visit au every 2months until nov of 2016 (example june/august/oct 2016)..will they consider oct2016 as d lawful residence date? :D gosh! since we only need to satisfy at least the two major conditions as stated above (less than 12mnths outside au) and lawfully lived 4yrs then i am quiet confident that the latter condition is not an issue in your case (apply citizenship on feb2019) and n my case apply on apr 2020 :D

kc sa calculator ung i enter mo na permanent residence date is to ensure na ung date na un PR kana (in case u entered as 489 or other temp visa) thus satisfying the condition (You have lived in Australia for at least 12 months as a permanent resident) and that the lawful residence date is d date which i feel IED will satisfy (entering au wd a valid residence visa and not student or etc) :D

lets see..sana may mga citizens na dito mkaka prove otherwise sa confusion or curiousity ko or baka who were in d same situation bfore :D

Naguluhan ako sa criteria in applying citizenship... please help naman po sa case ko below.

    Subclass 190 approval - Sept 2015
    IED - Nov 2015
    Actual Move - June 2016

When can I apply for citizenship? Nov 2019 or June 2020?
Assuming we will have yearly 2 weeks vacation outside Australia.

    @KillerQT check mo dito https://www.border.gov.au/Trav/Ente/Retu/residence-calculator

Nov 2019, kasi when you enter AU as PR on Nov 2015 that also starts as your lawful residence. (Assuming you haven't stayed in AU before)

As far as i know Nov 2019 as long as you dont live outside of Au for over 12 months from Nov 2015 to 2019.

    here's for reference: https://www.border.gov.au/Trav/Citi/Appl/How-to-apply/Application-process-for-Australian-citizenship

Step 2. Ensure you meet the residence requirement

The residence requirement is based on the time you have lived in Australia and the time you have spent outside Australia.

    You must:
    1) have been living in Australia on a valid Australian visa for four years immediately before applying which must include the last 12 months as a permanent resident, and
    2) not have been absent from Australia for more than one year in total, in the 4 year period, including no more than 90 days in the year before applying.
