    @ChidoRodgers We traveled before the test but did not inform them. During the interview, they knew about it so I guess it boils down to the individual’s preference. But if you want to strictly follow what they say on the website then you can just inform the Department. I think informing them is crucial during the approval/ceremony invitation part rather than the pretest.

    @koalu ako po. Applied for citizenship 17 May 2018.. tapos intended vacation for 2 weeks during Christmas-New Year season pero my mom needed emergency surgery and ended up staying sa pinas until Mid April. Nareceive ko nga yung exam invitation letter ko nasa Pinas ako e, bumalik ako dito sa Sydney to take the exam then after 2 days lipad ulit pa Pinas. Tips for those who are still waiting for their citizenship interview and exam. Some CO maybe too meticulous especially for applicants with second names so bring all identification cards and proof of address with your EXACT name as the one in your application (even if it's not the one you submitted). If you have dependents in your application, make sure to bring their photos as well (the one you submitted together in your application). And lastly, to help you prepare for your exam, make sure to read "Our Common Bond" (watching it is not enough) and download the Australian Citizenship Tests app for IOS (I'm sure there's an android counterpart for this). The Mock Test is really helpful. Good luck!

    Hello Sa lahat,

    I just want to check your opinions, though masyado pa maaga to think about citizenship :))

    We were granted a PR visa last March 4, 2019. We did our initial entry last April 19-27, 2019. We are planning to officially move to AU by next year around July 27, 2020. ( 1 year and 3 months gap from IE to BM)

    Ibig sabihin ba neto eh we can only apply for citizenship by July, 2024 kasi mareset na ulit kasi lumagpas ng 1 year ung pa move namin? or Mag add lng kmi ng 3 more months para punan ung kulang at pwede na magapply by October 2023?

    Thank you po sa sasagot :)

    @Cassey Thank you. I just find it rather odd that arguably the most important thing in the process has this silly loophole. In this day and age, really, something as important as this letter should be electronic. But that's just me.

    By the way, the letter says to wait 10 days after the ceremony before applying for an AU passport. Did anyone actually wait this long? Yes, 10 days is a long wait for me lol.

    @appledeuce I know, it can be frustrating. Luckily with ours, we received an email, a letter and a text which I’m assuming is from our council the day before our ceremony.
    A lot have applied for passport right after their ceremony and were able to so there shouldn’t be any problem. Btw, Congrats!

    @Cassey thank you!
    I have another question. Once I take the oath, I automatically lose my Filipino citizenship, right? What happens if I travel back to our dear Pinas and use my Philippine passport before getting dual citizenship (and before getting my Australian passport)?

    @appledeuce Yes, you automatically lose the Filo citizenship. I don’t know anyone who tried doing that but to avoid any inconvenience, it’s best to do whatever is required. You can go to the embassy or post your application for the dual citizenship.

    @appledeuce @Cassey

    I have inquired about this at the PE Canberra and below is their reply.

    This refers to your query dated 9 June 2019.

    We wish to inform you that the moment you acquired foreign citizenship through the process of naturalization in a foreign country you had relinquished all your rights and privileges as a citizen of the Philippines, which includes the possession of Philippine passport. Your Philippine passport has lost its validity upon your assumption of foreign citizenship.

    If you are already a citizen of Australia, it is advised that you obtain an Australian passport.

    However, a natural born citizen of the Philippines, may re-acquire Philippine citizenship by applying for the Petition Under Oath to Re-acquire/Retain Philippine Citizenship Under R.A. 9225.

    Yan din tinanong ko sa Ph embassy pero di sinagot..i dont think malalaman nila unless ininform sila ng DIBP at nagupdate ang phil immigration ng data...dont put yourself na lang sa alanganin, apply na lang Au passport. May express naman kung talagang urgent ang travel mo.
