Speaking of diapers, haha.

I think that would be an advantage for your baby pag ganun.

For a year lang yun diba?

Dont know ngayon..

After that $5K baby bonus.. then breastfeed sya..para healthy and tipid.. libre din regular checkup sa health center.... Every quarter pumupunta pa rin ako sa Costco (melbourne po kami) para sa diaper (huggies-best value for money daw sabi ni misis) and bigas.. May immunization allowance pa ata from centrelink mga $200 ata un.

Sa work I remember I have a discretion kung paid parental leave or baby bonus. You can compute kung ano mas malaki.. in the end we opted for the baby bonus.

wow, thank you sa lahat ng information at feedback regarding giving birth in Oz.

we just found out that we're pregnant and we're not there yet, that's why we're a bit worried about how to go about it. Sana di kami mahihirapan kasi wala pa nga work husband ko pagdating namin dyan. Praying that he can get a job before I go there to give birth.

i'm so happy to read that giving birth there is midwife-centered! Gusto ko yun kasi at least you can lay out your birth plan and the midwife can assist you. and i love that they're promoting breastfeeding!! very nice. :)

I have some questions for you guys, sana may makaka sagot. Thank you so much in advance :):

    - would you know the range of rates for midwives in Melbourne specifically?
    - anybody here who knows about giving birth naturally after one CS (VBAC) birth before? can it be handled in public hospitals, too?
    - do you guys think ok lang na I will only go to Aus on my 6th-7th month until I give birth? Or do you think we're cutting it too close?

@kookie420 - congrats on the new bundle of joy! I am pregnant myself and due in a few weeks. I got pregnant 4-5 months after landing here, and just about 3 weeks after I became permanent at work. So don't worry too much, you will be fine. Maganda magbuntis dito. On your questions:

    - No idea about midwife rates. If you are coming as a permanent resident, all costs are free besides a 1 or 2 scans. If you are coming as a temporary resident, I believe your private health insurance should be able to cover for part or all of the costs.

    - I will be doing VBAC at a public hospital. :)
    - Your choice, but I suggest you clear this with your doctor there. Will you be allowed to travel at that stage?

    God bless you :)

@021607, thanks so much for the reply! I wonder why I didn't see this. Anyway, I will be about 7 months by the time of our travel so it's still allowed (per PAL's regulations). But I will also check with my OB in Davao before we leave, as I would have to get clearance to travel.

Uy, balitaan mo ako about your VBAC please!! I so want to do it. :)

May 1 year wait period for new p.r. Hindi automatic. Also of those note i would advise strongly not to have a baby until one us financially ready and all residency requirements are met.

Baby bonus ...madaling ma ubos lng yan. The cost of having a baby in au is more expensive than one thinks kasi in the long run one of you have to give up work for 1-2 years. So no income from one of you or opt for daycare na para na rin half ng salary mu.

Babies are a gift but dapat prepared tayo as parents to be able to give them the best.

May couple of student visas..may work si misis. Si hubby part time and studying. Got pregnant in au.. But may complications and baby is quite sick. Private insurance only covers as much eSpecially since most people just take out the cheapest covers. Sobrang laki ng out of pocket bills nila. In pesos... Millions!!!

And baby is not an au citizen. I am not sure how that goes... Hindi pala automatic if u are born here to be a citizen kasi student or work visa holders ang parents???

What will happen if you cant pay off the hospital bills?? Deported? Wala bang charity case???

    Tama ka @li_i_ren.

And that's a really good advice and fair warning as well. From the time nakapagtrabaho ako dito, dun ko naisip ang advantages ng health insurance. Lalo na ngayon, malamig. Andami bata nagkakasakit. Overflowing na yung ED sa public hospital. Yung may insurance, lumilipat sa private. Pero yung wala, have to wait it out talaga.

Don't get me wrong, Australia public hospitals are some of the best in the world, pero napupuno rin. Nagkukulang ng beds at mga specialista. Akalain niyo, kung gusto niyo Pediatrician titingin sa anak niyo, waiting time averages 6 months.

@li_i_ren thanks for the info. Just to make sure I understood you correctly, for PRs holding visa 189, since we're still new, my child who will be born there will not be automatically a citizen and we're not entitled to the baby bonus because we haven't reached the residency requirement yet?

I agree with both of you, not easy to have kid/s. Not just with the expenses but everything else gets affected. :| I'm just praying that my husband can find a good paying job there as soon as he gets there.

@ kookie... No no no. I think u misunderstood:( i am not replying to ur comment. I am not talkng about the 189 pr visa. I am talking about STUDENT and WORK VISA holders.

Yung first sentence... I am just saying most benefits may 1 year waiting period. Baby bonus i think most can get it right away but if u really think about it hindi sya ganun kalaki specially if u need to buy everything for baby but better than nothing. If one have a baby here and is happy may baby bonus pero hindi naman maka work for the next year or two. I'd rather not have a baby, save or be stable sa work para maka avail ng maternity leave than have a baby dahil may baby bonus na di naman kalakihan.

If ur p.r then ur baby will become a citizen: p

I was posting an independent story not related to ur post for student and work visa holders.

I hope that clears it up.

Thanks for clearing that up, @li_i_ren. thought you were generally referring to my case. mali ko din kasi di ko naman ni-state yung status ko hehe

I agree, 5k is just small especially when you're in a big city like Sydney. I still wish my husband could find a job in Victoria.
