I became a fan of this sport when I moved here in Singapore; I am just wondering if this sports is as big in Australia as it is here in Singapore.

More so, are there any football fans here in the forum? :)

nope. magkaiba sya. NRL (National Rugby League) yung rugby at yun ang main sport sa sydney, while here sa melbourne e AFL (Australian Football League) naman.

Australian Rules is played in Melbourne, Adelaide, Perth, Sydney and Queensland but is biggest in the first three cities I named.
Rugby League (RL) is played mainly in NSW and Queensland but there is a team in Melbourne too. I don't know why they call RL football when they mostly carry it and throw it.
Football, or Soccer as it is mostly called in Australia has a National League with teams in Queensland, NSW,Victoria, South Australia and Western Australia. Australia is 33rd in the world and probably second to Japan and maybe equal with South Korea in the Asian Confederation. At the moment Emile Heskey, Shinji Ono and and Alessandro Del Piero are playing in the A League. The A League is probably equivalent to lower League 1 upper League two in England. I have seen Australians in these league who would struggle to get a game in the A League but they make more money playing in England. Of the Asian league probably only J League is better, Australian sides have competed quite well in the Asian Champions League especially Adelaide United. I have seen Australian players in the K League and Chinese Super league who were only equal to the better players in Australia and some who would not be in any first 11 in any A League side.
Basketball has a National League with the same states participating as soccer and Australia has Andrew Bogut and Patrick Mills playing in the NBA. Australias national side is 10th in the world and made the last eight in the 2012 Olympics.
I was probably more of a fan of the Premier league in England than La Liga in Spain or Serie A in Italy but I know of the better players in those leagues.
There is a Scottish/Filipino playing in the A League at Adelaide United and his name is Iain Ramsay. I note there is a FilOz, name Leigh Gunn who is in the Azkals squad. He has played in the NSW Super league but I don't know how good he is. Obviously not as good as Ramsay because he plays in the ALeague and is potentially in Adelaides best 11 if he was more consistent.
Sport is a big pastime in Australia because people can afford to do it and we have superb weather to play outdoor sports and we do ok across the world. I suggest you go to an A League game in whatever city you are in and check out a game sometimes. Technically it could be much better but games are competitive and there are a few players who are quite good and im sure you would enjoy it.

@orrightfella - i reckon you are a soccer fan right?

I am a big fan of FC Barcelona (obviously shown in my avatar) - very very nice passing game I should say. In the future I think I would need to shift to EPL as it is much more famous in Australia and La Liga matches i heard are not being shown. Of couse, the support for FCB will still remain.

Leigh Gunn, I have heard of this bloke, in fact he is the husband of a highschool schoolmate of mine. Just like you, I don't know how good he is.

I am looking for tickets @killerbee - do you know where to find one. sali mo naman ako please!!

Yes, confirm that limited lang ang ibibenta sa mga Pinoy. The reason being that this is an away match for PHI hence there is a need that mas maraming ang supporters ng Lions XI.

600,000 thousand registered players play basketball in Australia LokiJr. Approximatelly 700,000 Soccer, about 500,000 Aussie Rules, about 500,000 Rugby League. Seems to me basketball is as popular but not as big nationally as the 'football' games. Swimming and cricket have large numbers too.
Im a sports fan but especially ball sports psychoboy. Played soccer as a kid, aussie rules and cricket as a teenager and adult and played maybe 3 years of basketball as a teenager. You would have enjoyed watching Brisbane being a Barcelona fan. whilst obviously not on the same level Brisbane played a good passing game which won them the last 2 A League titles. My team doesn't play Premier League and honestly I haven't followed them so closely over the last 2 years. Crystal Palace started in the Premier league in 1992 and were in the old First division but they havent been top flight since 2005.

@TasBurrfoot tanong lang po, do you follow EPL or La Liga. Paano kayo nakakapanuod? Is it included in the cable channels or same siya like SG na add-on package. Ngayun ko lang narealise na mas mahirap pala diyan kasi talagang madaling araw ang kick-off time hahaha

Take a look at my logo! :)

Ehehehe - I watch Barcelona games lang in La Liga, clips of EPL games and Champions League matches.

Meron Foxtel dito pero mahal - I just watch it from the Net. Yung Champions League, I watch it sa SBS. :)
