Hello! How do the Filipino families in Australia celebrate Christmas? :)

This will be our family's first Christmas and I just want to get some ideas coz it seems that Xmas is not a big thing here compare back home in the Philippines. Thanks! :)

    Although, may extra day kayo diyan sa Australia diba? Yung Boxing Day ba yun? hehe

    From my friends stories who experienced Christmas in Oz, tahimik daw ang most places kasi ang mga tao daw nasa kanya-kanyang pamilya. So it is also a special day din sa kanila for family gathering day. Dito nga rin sa Indonesia, dedma din ang pasko since most people are Muslim so hindi rin ako gaanong naho-homesick this Christmas (hopefully!). Pang-fifth year ko na nga na walang Pinoy Christmas. Haiitzz....

    Dedma nga lng pasko d2 pero ok lng skin para d ako ma homesick kase parang nakakalungkot pg n realize ko n pasko tas ala ko sa pinas :(
    sanayan lang yan. Mas mabuti pa kung dalhin mo family mo sa oz para di ma homesick. :D

    Walang namamasko, hindi masyado matao unlike sa Pinas. Spend time with family and friends lang dito, bbq + konting handa. :) Wala nga kami pasok ng 24th din eh, forced leave. Haha. Yun iba 1week+ ang shutdown ng offices. Again, bawas sa annual leave din. Hehe

    seriously, sabi ng mga kakilala ko dun, tayo naman daw ang gagawa ng activities natin pag holidays.. its time for us to explore AU.. dami pwede puntahan or gawin..

    lalo na closed mostly ang mga offices.. so maraming time to go out, beach, camping, road trip, vacation.... kung maraming friends pwede potluck.. kung walang friends, hanap ng friends...

    lapit lang ang pinas.. un nga lang mahal pamasahe pauwi..

    me work on all the holidays kasi double pay! hahahahaha!;) we spend christmas on the 24th dec kasi hindi sya double pay but work on the 25th and 26th kasi double pay;) and if that falls on a sunday parang naka triple na!:) hehehehe:)

    Exploring Australia on the Christmas Holidays is a good idea definitely but ang problem lang is that most Australians (and immigrants) also thinks the same, so I reckon you will have (1) sky-high cost of accomodation and transportation and (2) massive traffic in the freeway...

    @lokiJr im a nurse.. sick kids don't cure themselves just because it's christmas. there's always a kid who still can't breathe..a heart that won't pump.. if you want to give us a holiday... fine. but you better be sure if you have a kid who is ventilated/ intubated and whose heart is only pumping because of inotropes pumped through central lines.. that there is a nurse/ doctor in the unit and not out having a holiday like the rest of the populace.

    unless you as a parent is happy for 1 day that you look after your own child while your child is in the verge of death.. while the nurses/ doctors go on a holiday..cause like you said may work to do bah on the 25th??

    if it weren't for the "double" pay and the type of pay we get.. we'd be taking a day off too you know cause we got families too.

    and if some drunkard who had too much to drink at their barbecue smash into your car on your way to a christmas party....and you've lacerated your liver against the steering wheel, smashed your skull against the window and gotten a subdural hematoma the size of a golf ball, gotten a C1 fracture ...you better wish that the type of "business" called hospitals are opened because with that type of fracture..you'd be lucky you won't be dead on the spot.

    have a happy holiday and be thankful that the medical profession work on holidays to keep people who are sick and dying alive for another christmas which may or may not be their last.
