A Carer Visa is a permanent visa issued to a relative of an Australian who requires substantial and continuous assistance (at least two years) due to a long-term or permanent medical condition that is causing intellectual, sensory or physical impairment of their ability to perform activities of daily living.

The relative must be unable to “reasonably obtain” the needed care from another relative in Australia or an Australian healthcare facility, such as a hospital or a nursing facility.
