unemployment around 5.5% as of last report...

Yup binabawasan nila... Wherein there are double standards between citizens and PRs... :) Sa Australia, more or less patas ang citizen sa PR eh... :)

@TasBurrfoot True. Parang wala nga silang definite standard dito eh. Maisip-isip. Depende sa reactions ng mga citizens nila. Dati ok nung ung matandang Lee pa ung PM. Ngaun daming changes. Maybe because SG is too overcrowded now, having 65% as foreigners. Buti na lang ang laki ng Au. Kayang kayo tayong i-accommodate lahat. Hehehe

Also read...2k lng if first born, 1k for next kids but also it seems maraming pabor na tanggalin eto completely.
Ok nga dba may financial help when u have a baby... But if u think of it this way. As a new migrant, If u have a baby and u dont have work, you cant look for work either kasi no one will look after baby. You lose a year's worth of income or the potential to look for work.

Mas mabuti to have work.. Have tenure at work and avail of maternity leave and be paid while on leave than expect something like the baby bonus. Yan lng sentiments ko nyan.

First home buyer grant ...not all states meron. Also only if brand new or newly built house. But for abolishment na din toh...
    http://blog.realestateview.com.au/2013/04/first-home-to-be-worse-off-after-july-1/

May income test ang baby bonus...not all eligible.
    Income test for Baby Bonus
Baby Bonus is payable if your family's estimated combined adjusted taxable income is $75,000 or less in the six months after your child is born or enters your care.

You have up to 52 weeks from the birth of your baby or from the time your child enters your care to claim Baby Bonus and provide your income estimate. If your income is initially too high or your circumstances change, you should tell us immediately and we can reassess your claim.

Ang issue naman ngayon if you watch the news..(current affairs sa channel 9) and read the papers... Gusto naman nila i-abolish ang 457 visa kasi daming aussies walang work kasi it goes to foreign workers. Sabi ng govt d daw yan issue pero it is the ozzie unions pushing for it to be reviewed.

    http://www.news.com.au/national-news/federal-election/visas-crackdown-82168217not-in-the-bag82178217-says-opposition/story-fnho52ip-1226666085058

But dont know if that will happen... So like me i really want to sort my p.r na.

I work in health... According to our social worker, slowly but surely australia is cutting down on its welfares but d lng lumalabas lahat sa news.

So for those coming here..have a sense of urgency na you need to be here na kasi there will be changes and these changes may not be beneficial to migrants. Of course, australians have to look out for themselves first. If they can get people off benefits and back to work then mas ok for them.

Pero comparing to singapore..i guess d din fair comparison. At least mas humanitarian ang australia pero mahirap i maintain ang welfare system if maraming umasa nito. Cut backs will be the norm until yung pinaka basic na lng but sustainable maiiwan.

Like example.. Yung bata namin on tracheostomy ( paki google na lng) if they need a sort of home ventilator before sagot yan lahat ng govt pero ngayon half and half na with the parents kasi for long term use yan eh.

Ung mga consumables nyan... Parents are advised to sterilized them at home and reuse. 10-20 yrs ago may supply pa daw sabi ng trache nurse namin but ngayon kunti na lng budget.

One parent i know nag fund raising para maka bayad sa renta ng machines kasi she cant work..main carer sya ni baby.

I know a parent.. She had to sell her business ( pero mayaman si madam) but for the last 17 years she has been looking after her child kasi when she gave birth nawalan ng oxygen sa brain yung bata.. Disabled. I asked if she get a break... The govt only gives her 200-400 a week that is not enough for the consumables they use like nappies.. Creams , suction catheters, feeding tubes for the peg etc.

Nice to have babies.. Pero specially as a migrant and most likely as an employee lng in au. I believe it should be planned and dapat prepared ka. Not all pregnancy straightforward.

Im saying this kasi there people not necessarily pinoys.. Come to au and have babies right away para citizen si baby. I mean if you just wait until you are settled..same outcome lng naman din plus mas prepared as a family.

As a nurse mas nakikita kasi namin and we feel what cut backs can do.. Frontline kasi ang health. From doctor shortage dahil walang budget to hire one to waiting time for surgeries.

Punta ka sa centrelink page... Ang ganda mag basa may benefits and such but people dont realize that the welfare system cuts back on other aspects of the budget. The thing is taxes natin yung most benefits but once nasa certain income bracket ka..d ka eligible for most benefits. It goes to either those in need which is ok or those who are too lazy to work na medyo marami din dito. Money dont grow on trees..not even in australia.

Pa ot lang. If you can have a baby lalo na first baby then do it its a blessings kahit hirap pa. It took us more than 6 years ng wife ko bago kami nagkaanak and sobrang kinabahan na talaga ako. Kahit nabawasan income namin right now iba pala feeling ng may baby hehe. Goodluck

We have not experienced this one but I definitely encourage people to take a Private Medical Insurance first if you are planning to have a baby ...

there were once a news regarding a patient gave birth assisted by another patient this was in blacktown ...

^ agree with you @vhoythoy. I guess, different strokes for different folks. I understand na mahirap ang magkaroon ng anak and kailangan prepared ka - financially, emotionally and physically. but sometimes, life happens, in the most unexpected way. and some people would want to be prepared for the worst, ie, having kids with health issues. for me, we just have to deal with what he have right now, because we cannot take it back anymore :)

we’re just a newly-arrived migrant then( barely 2mos) when we found out that we’re having another baby..(made in australia, haha!)..I would say we’ve got a really nice experience nung nanganak c wifey last year d2 sa Canberra Hospital..they have this newly-opened Centenary Hospital for Women and Children so the facilities were really good..we’re actually the first batch to use the brand new building and facilities..We stayed there for 5 days kc underweight c baby nung pinanganak and nagka jaundice cia, so they don’t want to send us home until our baby gains weight and the jaundice subsides..for a 5-day stay, we didn’t pay any single penny (wla kami private health insurance, medicare lang)..may mga take home baby kit pa kmi..=) and nung nkauwi na kmi, the assigned midwife visited us at home few times to check if the mum and bub we’re doin ok..na-avail din nmin ung 5k baby bonus, installment ang payment fortnightly for 5mos which was really big help for us.

cguro depende sa priorities nyo yan as a couple, career or having a baby?.. it’s up for you to decide kc sometimes what works for us might not work for you,..sa case nmin it’s one of our priority kc medyo malayo na ung age gap ng kids nmin (5yrs)…plus the fact that our biological clock is ticking, mas mahirap atang gumising sa madaling araw para magtimpla ng gatas pag nirarayuma na..hahaha!..though it’s true na mahirap talaga ang childcare d2,(my wife has to give up working) it’s still priceless to see how your family is growing..and also you will realise na malungkot d2 pag wla o isa lang anak mas masaya pa rin ung may mga nagungulit sayo na mga bulilit pag-uwi mo after a day’s hard work.... :)

@akino nice to hear positive stories like this. Nakaka-inspire. Of course there will always be bumps and hurdles along the way especially if having a baby because its one of the biggest, if not the biggest, responsibility one can ever have. But its the most rewarding feeling one can ever experience as well, totally priceless. A child makes your life happier and more meaningful.

Agree with @vhoythoy and @kookie420 . Sometimes, even the most planned scenario may still go wrong. And preparation is not always applicable until you experience the real thing. Rule of the thumb naman yung "prepare and plan" sa lahat ng pagkakataon. But at the end of the day, you just have to know your means, resources, limits, priorities and responsibilities. Although worst scenario is always a possibility, theres also a chance, hope and faith to make things better.

Making a living is different from making a life.

Sir, unang-una, congratulations po sa inyo. :)

Ask ko lang, by health card, I am assuming hindi eto health insurance ano po? Alam ko iba to eh. May medicare po ba kayo? Medicare oughta cover the initial GP consults with your wife. And pati prenatal medicines up to the PBS, basta may prescription lang from your GP. Madami po checkup na mangyayari in the course of her pregnancy. Isama na growth and morphology scan na medyo may kamahalan. Tingnan niyo po kung meron kayong health coverage: Medicare or health insurance.

    Saan state po kayo?

@caylin take note of the clause below:

Children born to a permanent resident of Australia:
Children born in Australia automatically acquire Australian citizenship if at least one parent is an Australian citizen or permanent resident at the time of the child's birth.
Children born outside Australia to parents who are not Australian citizens do not automatically acquire Australian citizenship, nor are they eligible for citizenship by descent.
Children born outside Australia to permanent resident parents will need to apply for and be granted a permanent residence visa to be able to enter and remain in Australia with their parents.
Most children born outside Australia to permanent resident parents will need to apply for a Child (subclass 101) visa. The current processing time for the Child (subclass 101) visa is approximately 14 months.
All people who apply for a visa, including applicants who are the children of permanent residents, must meet the eligibility requirements and pay the associated charges for the relevant visa.

Additional fee, additional time for processing. Congrats nga pala sa 2 good news.

Libre ang manganak sa public hospital. Of course, may bayad pag sa private. Dito papasok ung private medical insurance.

How bad is giving birth in a public hospital that one would choose to pay for a private hospital? Anyone who's had an experience?
The word "bad" is really not applicable. Maganda ang mga public hospitals sa Au in terms of doctors and services, according to my research. Sa private, you can choose your own room. Ang nagpapaanak both public and private ay midwife. But i think you can ask for personal OB sa private kung maganda tlga ang insurance coverage mo. In terms of waiting period, dahil sa maraming pumupunta sa public shempre napupuno ang facilities at fully booked ang doctors. Sa private, makakapili ka ng doctors. Sa tingin ko people are choosing private over public dahil sa privacy, facility, urgent need and convenience.

@jengrata CS kasi ang firstborn ko so most probably CS din ang susunod ko. Wala pa naman pero just imagining the scenario. Mukhang mas convenient ang private kung ganun. Thanks for the story :)

Ano bang mga insurance madalas gamitin pag kasama ang pregnancy and giving birth costs?

Same here, CS din ako. I think halos lahat ng insurance company ay may packages for pregnancy, pero these are bit expensive, kasi ito ung parang mga high end yata nila. Check mo tong thread na to. May nagbigay jan ng website wherein you can compare insurance companies, their packages, coverage and prices.

In essence, private insurance is for non-PRs, since they are not covered by Medicare. But since the government imposes tax to your income if you do not have a private insurance, it will be more beneficial for you if you had one.

to know more you can ask a accountant to clarify for you
