I'm having difficulty finding a job.

After the call, di nila naibaba yung phone. Parang customary na kasi sa akin na antayin ko muna ibaba ng kabilang line yung phone bago ko ibaba lalo na sa mga interviews or pag kausap ko boss ko. Nadinig ko yung isang kausap ko na "I can't understand what that bloke is blabbing about... the accent man, the accent".... tapos binaba ko na yung Skype call.

Feeling ko nadiscriminate ako... Imagine, nagwo-work na ako dito sa States ng 4-5 years. ALam ko iba ang accent ng American English sa British English pero it does not mean na hindi nagmi-make sense ang sinasabi ko. Mataas ang grade ko sa IELTS (pwera lang writing hehehehe!)

Nalungkot ako sa nangyari but I just shrug it off. Affected pa din ako ngayon pero iniisip ko it's their lost, not mine. 😃

Saka ang plan ko pa naman ay next year na lang pupunta doon so parang OK lang.

Pero grabe ang discrimination eh noh.

Just try to avoid making those statement... Just believe me, I have worked before in a country that is full of Indians - when you make some statements regarding their accent, they find it offensive! 🙂

Just my 2 cents, you shouldn't feel degraded or discriminated about this, if you think about it, you should pity these two, because outside AU no one else can understand them nor can they understand anyone else. You passed IELTS easy with high marks as you mentioned that itself attest to your capability, don't let others put you down. Nde naman biro yung mga pinagdaadan at inayos mo to get a migrant visa. Trust on your skills kasi you wouldn't get a visa if you're not capable. Just shrug it off and move to the next interview. It's their loss...

i agre with ruguez,when i come here i struggled also with their english accent,and i think most of the migrants is also experiencing that when they came here,i just remember one of the ielts speaking review instructor said,understanding the speaking accent of the native english is an art rather that science,it's an art that you can develop...and it's true na kawawa this 2 auusie because if they can't find a local to fill the position they need what are their option...?it's only mean that this 2 auusie did not travel outside australia because they understand the different english accent....maybe they will have troubled finding a good and hardwork employee in the future if they are not keen to understand the language itself....and to you..keep it up,it's not the end of the world,maybe there is a good and rewarding job waiting for you....remember"god is working for the good of us.."

Re: accent. One interviewer I spoke with over the phone kept asking where I studied because my accent was not typical to that of Filipinos. I researched and found out Aussies find the American accent refreshing and quite likable. So nood lang ng nood ng HIMYM, NCIS, The Walking Dead, Suits, etc. but do not forget to learn to adapt to the Aussie accent as well.

I read somewhere that referrals are a huge help in getting a job there. If that's the case I guess it will help if you contact some Filipino communities there?

We have American accent so it wouldn't be a problem for Filipinos isnt it?

Bago lang po ako dito sa forum. mag tatanong lang po ako? ano po mga requirements sa pag hahanap ng job d2 sa AU? medyo nahihirapan po kasi kmi ng sister ko. saka san po yung lugar na maraming pinoy/pinays? nandito po kasi kami sa suburb sa Beenleigh.

Sorry ha if this was asked already. Question lang po, is it really hard to find a job in AU if you're not there yet? Inisip ko kase mahirap magmove if wala kang kilala dyan and mataas ang possibility na madeplete agad ang resources if you move there jobless plus you have to pay for rent, utilities etc..lahat ng moolah palabas.

May nakaexperience ba makakuha ng job habang nasa labas pa ng AU? Ganu katagal before you found a job?

Yung friend ko may experience sa Banking for 10+ years pero naka-set na mind nya na hindi kaagad sya makakahanap ng work related sa job nya, so he accepted part time job for the mean time (barista, cleaning, messenger, etc). Pero in 3-4 months nagkawork din sya sa NAB as Systems Analyst. Kaya tyaga and dasal lang talga... also a matter of luck na rin...

Wala naman imposible eh, wag lang panghinaan nang loob.

Tumira na ako sa 4 countries alone, at mahirap talga sa simula.. adjustment period.. start from scratch talga kaya tapangan lang talga natin loob natin...

Salamat @Khaosan_Road . Matagal pa naman kase dpa ko nagfile ng EOI pero as early as now my sisters who are here with me in SG are discouraging me to go to AU without a job. Bigla ko tuloy napaisip sa mga mgyayare sa future. I guess nahirapan lang ako sa pag gauge ng risks vs calculated risks but at least yung mga insights and experiences nshhare dito nakkatulong sa pagprepare ng sarili. Salamat.

@yukie77 - just some suggestions, you have to expedite your application if you really want to go to australia. as most of us know, there will be a new set of rules (in which hindi natin alam right now what will be the changes) that will be in effect on July 1st....

And considering that it will be election year, baka ma apektuhan yung intake ng migration... baka lang! 🙂

kung plan mo talaga pumunta sa australia, best to do it as soon as possible.

Anyway hopefully one take lang ang IELTS pra umabot. End of March pa kase. Honestly gusto ko naman tlga, medio siguro now that things are getting done, as slow as it may seem, nagsisink in na this is for real, siguro ganun din feeling ng parents & older sisters ko kaya nagshshare sila mga comments nila which unintentionally implants more doubt in me ehehe. I wish you all the best then!! At least by now, you will have an indicative points when you lodge your EOI eventually and malalaman mo kung ano ang score that you need to aim...

Hi Guys,

Question po para sa mga pips na nasa AU, I read from the other topics na one of the reasons kaya nde makakuha agad ng work is walang local experience. I've worked for AIG (CHARTIS) and twice din ako pinadala sa Melbourne, and was also with MACQUARIE Phils. Do you think this will help me land a job if ever I get through the process? TIA
