Hello,
Just thought to say thank you po to everyone here who shared valuable tips, reminders and their experiences for the NAATI CCL exam. Today I received the good news that I passed my exam! I am really grateful and want to share my personal experience as well. Hopefully others might find it somehow helpful. Apologies in advance if medyo mahaba.
Time line:
Aug 14 - created account in NAATI website, uploaded req'ts and submit registration.
Aug 15 - received regsitration confirmation
Aug 15 to Aug 18 - multiple times a day logging in to chance any online test date
Aug 18 - I chanced a slot on an online test for 26 Aug 2020, 11.00AM PHT
Aug 18 to Aug 25 - review and prepare for NAATI CCL Filipino Test
Aug 26 - test date
Sept 10 - received positive results
Dialogue 1: I used 1 repeat
Topic: a citizen claiming parking penalty fee in the police station
Dialogue 2: I used 1 correction
Topic: a citizen inquiring in the bank about a credit card she received via courier
Kaya yata madami slot na nagopen nung Aug 18 kasi usually may mga nag cacancel 1 week before their exam para refundable pa din yung 75% nung fee (800 aud). If less than 1 week, non refundable na kasi. I read na usually nag-rereview center or self review yung mga takers for at least month before taking it. Pero for me, na medyo press sa time and limited resources, talagang nilakasan ko na lang loob ko at sinamahan ng dasal na magtake kahit na 1 week lang preparation ko. Thankfully nakatulong yung focused practice and prayers to me.
Preparation tips:
Gumawa ako ng schedule of reviewing good for 6 days which I tried to religiously follow. I did at least 16 dialogues practice per day for 4 days. Lahat ng practices ko nirerecord ko din para maplayback ko and mascore-an ko yung performance ko. Nagnonotes din ako and used my video conferencing headset all the time for every practice.
Nung una sobrang hirap and madami ako mali pero habang mas dumadami yung practices ko napapansin ko nagiimprove yung translation skills ko in terms of speed of notes taking, memory recall, confidence in delivery etc.
May 27 practice videos yata yung filipino dun.
Nagdownload ako ng "CCL Tutorials" mobile app. Dahil walang Filipino dun, ginamit ko yung english dialogues ng Vietnamese to practice Filipino translation. Pag in transit or commute or may waiting time, dito ako nagpapractice.
yung notes taking strategy ko medyo weird pero worked very well for me. So lahat ng notes for every segment, nilalagayan ko ng legeng na either "E" or "T" before yung actual notes para malaman ko kung saang language ko itatranslate. Then lahat ng notes taking ko in english lahat which is yung mas gamay ko na language. So pag english babasahin ko lang and icoconnect yung words. Then if "T" alam ko na in tagalog so habang binabasa ko yung english notes on the spot ko sya tntranslate to tagalog. This perfectly worked our for me in terms of speed and dami ng words na nasusulat and thus natatranslate to tagalog. I tried writing notes in tagalog lagi ako nauubusan ng time then magpapanic na during translation kasi wala na ako matandaan. Hehe.
gumawa ako ng shortcuts for common words like GAM (good morning), TYVM (Thank you very much) etc
last 2 days before exam, nag mock trials lang ako yung as in pnractice ko na kunwari yun na yung actual 1 take in recording yung entire 2 dialogues and walang rest in between. Super nakatulong during actual yun.
On the day actual experience:
Nagenter na ako ng room 15mins before then pumasok yung proctor on the dot 11AM. Old lady with a very thick accent medyo nahirapan ako intindihin siya. Nag small talk siya siguro to loosen up yung ambiance or nervousness ko. We had a little chat and nakahelp maka calm.
nagorient siya about hand signals, repeat and correction etc.
pina room tour niya yung laptop so I had to carry the laptop and show her around my room. Thankfully wala naman naging comment
pinakita ko yung passport ko
nagcheck ng audio volume and sounds
Even in between the dialogues super saglit lang.
Again, thank you po to everyone in this thread! God bless!
