Arrived here in Melbourne yesterday. Medyo malamig pa din but they are saying it's the start of spring. Here's what I've done so far:
- Got australian sim number. Opted for Telstra. Just showed my passport and that's it.
- Opened a bank account at NAB. They asked me for the ff:
2 IDs I gave my passport and driver's license
visa grant document
boarding pass or itinerary if you have been here less than 6 months
- Applied for TFN. Had to go to a place where somebody assisted me in doing it online. Passport and visa grant document needed
- Centrelink. This is where I have a question. The guy I talked to in the office said that for new permanent residents there is a waiting period of 2-4 years of living here before you can apply for Centrelink. I have a subclass 189 and I heard the opposite. Can someone confirm this? Thanks!
Total time spent: less than 2 hours. Tomorrow I will apply for Medicare.
Anyway, it seems that it depends sa branch na napuntahan mong centrelink or baka nagbago na din sila ng rule since June ( di natin masabi). Also, centrelink is applicable lang pala pag may kids.
I was able to apply for Centrelink and Medicare last June nung mag IE kami.

Anyway, complete this form, save as draft mo sa email mo then access your email doon para ma print mo (or if may printer ka sa bahay e print mo na) - para dere derecho ang apply mo. 1 form for the entire family lang need.
