How is the current socio-political climate in OZ in Filipino perspective for those who are in OZ?

This question mainly is for those who are already in Australia who have the actual observation not just from media.

I just came across a disturbing discussion from a different forum where there is a lot of well-received anti-immigration sentiments especially now. These are Australians whining, complaining, and ranting about their government for its continuous acceptance of immigrants.

Upon reading those, I felt discouraged already. I felt unwelcome. lol. I know racism rooting from immigration is a reality and inevitable but just wondering how bad it is in AU especially for Filipinos? I am worried about the employment prospects if there is a common anti-immigration sentiment among the employers, it might be a challenge for us to break this barrier.

i think, ang ayaw nila is yung pupunta dito and then rely on gov't financial assistance.

@Kaidan Were based in a regional city 3 hrs from Brisbane, Nurse and IT. Wala naman kaming na encounter na discrimination both at work and outside. I think you just have to do your part. You need to do your best to integrate yourself and your family to the society. Tapos with the data available online, I think since mid-late 2019 hangang ngayon, super low na yung pumapasok dito as migrants compared to previous years so I dont know why they are still whining about it. Even now, they are only prioritizing onshore applicants. Anyway, lahat talaga ng 1st world country, yung general population nila, ayaw sa migrants so normal lang yun, it will never change.. wag ka lang madiscourage, if gusto mo then go for it 🙂

To be honest, never pa ako nkaranas ng racism dito miski sa employment. Yan lagi discussion ng mga friends ko, hindi rin cla nkaranas ng racism. Most Aussies na nka encounter ko dito are very welcoming sa Pinoy. Integration is key I think, may good effect ang immigration sa economy kaya kailangan nila ng immigrants. Dapat un mga immigrants din ay open to embrace yung Aussie way of life.

Sa experience ko, mostly yung mga Aussies na walang trabaho ang galit sa migrants. Yung tipong ang tingin nila sayo e makiki-agaw ka sa benepisyo nila. Never encountered racism in the workplace, or even in applying for job. All is fair 'ika nga. Straightforward nga lang sila dito, di nagsusugarcoat. Kung palpak ka, sasabihan kang pumalpak ka. Pero kung maayos naman, you get their praises as well.

I work in IT, my wife is in the telco industry. Honestly, in our work place wala naman. nasa nsw kami, i believe compared to all other states, mas halong halo ang nsw when it comes to race. However, minsan mararamdaman mo sa grocery. Normally, i do not know how to put this in a politically correct way eh, but normally locals na hindi nag college or wala sa corporate world, may tendency na maramdaman mo yun. in my opinion naman, this is normal and comes with the territory. kahit sa pinas din meron naman yan. kahit nga sa pinoy dito minsan makikita mo din yan how they see pinoys na hindi pa citizen or naka students visa pa.

with regards to employment prospect, i do not think it will be a big factor. bottom line, kailangan nila ng tao. if lusot yung experience mo sa kailangan nila, wala din naman sila choice, they have to hire you. i have had two companies na, i do not think they hire because of race but because of your qualifications and your performance sa interview. so do not worry about breaking the barrier. and you have to understand where the locals are coming from as well. totoo naman, may local tayo na naagawan ng trabaho. totoo naman na yung government dito gives us more benefits compared sa gobyerno natin sa pinas. tanggapin na lang natin yun. and in my opinion as well, di naman mawawala ang pinas, so if au doesnt work out for you, sobrang dali naman umuwi. all you need is a valid ph passport.
