Any surge in the migrant intake would likely come through the skilled independent visa category, Dr Rizvi said, which requires prospective migrants to pass a points test to qualify for a visa. The test awards points for attributes such as youth, English language skills, educational qualifications and employment experience.
But Dr Rizvi said it would be necessary to ease the selection criteria “very significantly” to engineer a surge in migration rates."_
