Actually, the hostel with that price range yung 1st option ko last week pa. Very uncommon nga kaya worried ako. May I ask how was your personal experience? Mukhang okay naman mga reviews sa mga online sites but not sure if sugar coated yung mga yun.
You really have to manage your expectations when staying at a hostel, especially since you get less privacy in a dorm room. I would usually book a bed with fewer people as much as possible, and usually same gender as I am (4 to 8 people per room is my limit). You can't choose your dormmates, but I try to arrive/check-in around 3 or 4pm (which is the usual check-in time) so I can choose my bunk bed.
The hostels I've been to usually has a small locker in the room, but you'll need to bring your own padlock. The small locker can fit a backpack or small bags, but they're not big enough to fit a carry-on suitcase. So I keep all my suitcase and locker locked up when I leave the room and when I sleep at night (phone lang ang nakalabas pag gabi).
As for which hotels to go, I trust the reviews on Booking.com. Of course I would read the bad reviews too, but at least I'm informed of what things to expect from the hostels. May mga tao kasi na super high standards, expecting a hostel to be run like a 5-star hotel hahaha. For me, as long as malinis yung room/bed and accessible location, ok na ko dun.
