i had difficulty adjusting at first. i was a trainer at Speechpower in Manila for a while and i was teaching students to pronounce correctly pero American English yun e. so when i came here, it was difficult to get used to dropping the "r" etc. that's actually what makes us recognise other pinoys here when they speak in English.
because english is not our first language, kahit pa sanay tayo sa english back home, minsan you'd be at a loss for words when conversing with locals. just a tip, learn to think in english. practice lang, start with simple thoughts, habang naglalakad ka say it to your mind what you see. and then practice at home. my kids and their friends, and at times we at home, we talk in english. it helps.
pansin ko lang, pag kausap mo locals with aussie accent, nadadala ka. pero subukan mo kumausap ng indian o ibang lahi, nawawala ka pati grammar mo nakakalimutan mo ๐)
