It is probably the fact the MH and CX have stop-overs whereas Qantas and PAL are flying non-stop down under... ๐</blockquote>
Not entirely true I think..
For Qantas kasi, direct flights between AU and Ph is not everyday, so may mga days that you would have to opt for a flight with layover (either HK, SG or Thailand ata)... For PAL naman, it depends on the city that you'll visit, when I researched sydney and melbourne flights kasi, depende sa araw, PAL's flight can either land in melbourne (layover), then continue to sydney(final destination) or vice versa - same lang din ang fare for direct flights..
Also, USD200+ fare difference; eventhough may layover yung Cathay (considering na u can get a very quick layover din sa choice of schedule) is something that's not easy to resist,1 night hotel accomodation na yun for 2 hehe.
The downside with the cheap CX flight pala (of course there is a downside! hehe):
You can only choose seats upon checkin (usually 24 hours pag may web checkin) - so best seats are most likely taken na
No frequent flyer miles - we're banking more on skymiles anyway, so tapon din ang miles on any PH to AU flights for us..
More expensive cancellation/rebooking
Pero if you have the backpacker mindset naman and gusto mo masulit yung flight, pwede ka pumili ng mahabang layover sa HK, and magshopping spree ka on the side haha!
