@btarroja213 and @ruelcortez_BH; kailangan mo onshore before you can apply for TFN - the ATO website will be looking for your passport ata and this is connected to immigration records. If you are still not in Australia when you tried to apply online, you will be error message of some sort.

You guys can do this online first thing upon arrival in Australia.

provisional visa holders are not entitled to centerlink benefits..

Quick question to the old-timers in Oz. Do I need to register for Centrelink if I already have Medicare Card? I have come to Sydney with only my partner (no kids, not married, de facto, gay partners).

Are there any Centrelink services that are essential to us in the long run that we need to apply for now or this can wait in case we get into a situation or status where Centrelink may be of use (if we adopt kids, etc.)?

Medicare and Centrelink is 2 different entities Therefore you need to register to both

From you situation It's totally up to you, but I guess it would not hurt if you register

on line ako nag register ng TFN dito s Melbourne. How long bago ko makuha ung mismong TFN? card ba un at bu mail ba dadating?

@Shirlie, I applied for a TFN here in Perth Monday morning. And paguwi ko ng Thursday afternoon nasa mailbox na yun letter from ATO with my TFN number.

From what I know you cannot because you need to show your Key card ( ATM card ) as one of the requirements , not unless you can provide a 100 ID points

we did. we opened it 3 months before we settled in. you can open it anytime, basta within a year ay nasa Aust ka na to activate it. you may only do deposits and cannot do online transfers hangga't hindi pa siya activated.

Thanks. Nag mail ba sila sa Australia address kahit wala ka pa transactions? Or you need to make a wire transfer first?

^nope. Overseas address and phone numbers pa kasi ang provided namin sa kanila kasi wala pa naman kami sa Aust noon. Nag-open muna kami ng account bago nag-wire transfer.

A few days after we arrived here, nagpunta na lang kami sa stated branch (brought our passports with us) to activate the account. saka namin pinabago ang mailing address and phone numbers.
