Discrimination?

There are a lot of stories out there about discrimination, etc.

Can you tell us if you've encountered this in Canberra? I just want to know and prepare myself.

Nah, don't be too sensitive...

As what I have always mentioned before, mas marami pa discrimination I have experience from fellow Pinoy than from foreigners.

@TasBurrfoot, thanks! na bring up ulit yung topic with a friend kanina e. I was saying that as far as I know, sa canberra or sydney, di masyado. Sa Perth, oo, but relatively ok sa canberra. And they said, meron daw. Mataas pa din daw discrimination sa AU. So I had to ask 🙂

^^ Kwentong lasing lang. Base sa personal exp ko sa pinas dun sa lugar namin (karaniwan mga teenager/ bata) pag may punto pinagtatawanan na bisaya. Pag hindi synchronise kulay ng suot tinatawag na baduy at bisaya. Pag malaki katawan at harabas sa basketball tinatawag na larong bisaya at construction workers. Pag maitim pinagtawanan na nognog. Pero sa mga adult na medyo wala na din masyadong discrimination. Although may stereotype pa din na kunwari pag mukhang bumbay eh nagpapa 5-6 or kaya terorista.

Sa sg, personal experience ko walang racist or discriminations in person. I can say na yung mga local na ex-officemates ko ay ilan sa mabubuting tao na nakasalamuha ko in my lifetime. Pero sa internet like temasek times, yahoosg, hardwarezone, stomp eh wag kana magbasa at bugbog tayong mga pinoy. To some extent intindihin nlang baka kung tyo nasa kalagayn nila eh baka mas masahol pa tyo.

May kakilala nman ako sa perth sabi sa akin wag daw sa sydney kasi racist daw tao, mas ok daw dun sa kanila sa perth hahaha.

Sa akin personal na pananaw wala sa bansa or lahi ang racist/ discriminations. Nasa individual na tao parin yan. Tska if meron ka man ma encounter just in case, ignore mo nlang. Or kung sa work nman at tlagang affected pati work mo, pwede mo discuss sa mga boss mo or file a complaint.

Canberra is a lovely place.. very active ang pinoy community.. i stayed there for 15 months before on a work visa.. may isang time lang na napag tripan ng mga aussie yung mga kasama kong pinay habang nakaupo kami sa likod ng bus... pero kahit na may ganoon incident.. kung may option lang ako.. mas gusto ko i raise ang family ko sa canberra..tahimik.. alang traffic..

I concur, been to Canberra for 8 months never had a problem no discrimanation no nothing ... by the way kung bibili ka ng kotse its better to buy one in NSW much cheaper than in canberra .. tahimik lang masyado sa canberra maganda kung kasama mo na family mo agad ... parang ghost town pag pasko at mga holidays

sa NSW dapat bumili? malaki ba diperensya? meron ba mga second hand, para mas mura? haha mga magkano dapat i allocate ko dun?

Maraming 2nd Hand ...

Yung allocation depende talaga sa budget mo ...

Google some pinoy community in ACT ... marami sila dun ... me bowling basketball at normally mga religous community

it's a good thing na nakita ko itng post na to, medyo concern ko rin kasi ung discrimination. Marami rami rin kasi akong narinig at nabasang kwento tungkol dyan. At least ngaun mas panatag na ako hehehe.

sabi naman ng friend ko sa Perth living there for almost 5 years, madaming Asians dun and lesser nga daw yung discrimination compared sa ibang state. pero agree ako sa sabi ni tas na don't be too sensitive nalang. 🙂

kasi kuwento ng isang friend ko, yung hubby nya dun nag work, and na experience nya yung discrimination dun. As in pag makita sila sa sidewalk, kasehodang maglakad sa kalsada, di lang maka lakad yung mga asians. Pero tama nga, wag lang maging sensitive.

Ang na experience ko lang sa Canberra noon naglalakad ako sa footpath along the road minsan may mga sumisigaw o may tumatawag galing sa sasakyan mga kabataan. Mayrun one time huminto nagaalok ng lift hatid daw ako sa bahay 😃. Minsan lang yun nung naglalakad ako 3 years ago from office to bahay 30 minutes.

Canberra is very nice place to live especially sa mga may pamilya na. Very relax mag work dito at maganda din mag drive dahil minsan lang ang traffic at walang tollway fees. Madali mo mararating ang gusto mong puntahan kapag you drive. Ang mahirap lang dito ay ang public transportation "Bus" lalo na kapag weekend maghihintay ka ng matagal sa Bus. Kaya necccesity ang car dito. The weather is very nice four seasons sobrang ginaw kapag winter compare sa Sydney. Canberra is bike friendly halos lahat ng road may shared path at bike path. Kaya maganda mag bike dito. Maganda rin mag mag bush walking going to hill or Mountain. I appreciate mag bush walking sa hill makikita mo talaga ang beauty ng canberra City. Ang Canberra ay napapalibutan ng small mountain at hill. Kaya Maganda ito sa mga mahihilig mag exercise at mag jogging o kaya sa mga may dog pet. Bawat suburb may mga malalaking open space na you can do exercise and walking. Kaya maganda ang Canberra sa mga may healthy lifestyle.

Maganda din ang Public Hospital Services dito. When it comes to infrastructure tuloy tuloy ang government program na i improve ang Canberra. Tuloy tuloy din ang mga tinatayong Housing Land Development at mga iba pang mga government at private building. Maganda din ang mga Parks dito. May proposed din dito na Trams inside City at Bullet train from Sydney to Canberra, from Canberra to Melbourne.

Ang mahirap dito makahanap ng work sa private at most work dito ay goverment which is kailangan PR or citizen. I think madali naman makahanap ng work kapag customer services like sa restaurant and groceries tulad ng woolies at coles basta wag mamili puedeng makakuha agad ng part time job.

Maganda dito sa canberra sa office work ko okay naman friendly sila. Kaya huwag matakot kung nasaan ang work dun kayo. cheers

I went to Canberra last October for a holiday. All the negative things I heard from Australia (mostly discrimination) naglaho parang bula. Sobrang friendly ng mga tao. Personal experience namin ng wife ko, while walking on the streets, an elderly approached us and engaged in a conversation (mukha daw kasi kami Pinoy and nagwork sya sa Pinas dati as Social Service). Sa Sydney naman, when me and my wife where taking photos on the street, my wife holding a map kunyari lost, a lady jog past us then bumalik sya to ask if we are lost and offer to help with the directions. But actually we're not. Uplifting feeling ang naramdaman namin. We already love Australia.
