Investment advise in Australia pls share your tips and insights

What's your investment advice here in Australia? Could you please share it.

Some ideas to start:

Do you have stocks here? Anu ba ang easiest and cheapest way to get into Aussie stock market? Any tips for the rollercoaster activity lalo na may euro debt crisis?
Uso ba dito ang mga mutual fund gaya sa pinas? Saan ba pwedeng mag-invest sa mutual fund?
Property investment - pwede rin kaso malaki ang capital na kailangan tapos medyo slump pa ang market ngaun. Good time to buy or pababa pa rin ang trend hangang 2012? Kung pwde sanang kumuha ng 100% mortgage or baka may alam kayong mga lending institution na merong ganitong sistema?
Super annuation tips - do you even monitor your super account? Share naman ng tips kung anung fund ang high performing?
Buy and sell - anu ba ang magandang i-buy and sell dito galing pinas or vice versa, baka pwdeng pagkakitaan natin?
Gold/silver bars/bullion/coins - did you know madali lang bumili dito ng ganitong mga precious metals. Maraming akong nababasa sa internet na magandang investment ang silver bars/bullion/coins. I've looked at the charts and pataas ang prices ng silver from $20/oz last year, this year nasa $30plus/oz. What you do think? Saan ba natin pwedeng ibenta ito (baka marami dyan may angas kay jacob pwede tayong mag supply ng pilak sa mga home made paltik)
Have you heard of bitcoins? A Bitcoin is a form of internet currency, ginagamit ito to purchase goods and services on the internet. It's also used as an investment commodity kasi you are buying a value of a bitcoin at a certain point in time (parang stocks). I think the current value of 1 bitcoin is $17usd (pls check). Anybody interested?

1 tip: Don't put all your faith in those investment planners, you should do your share of the homework, know your risk. Friend ng friend ko (kwento sa 'kin) is an investment planner, may client sya nag-invest ng 50K, then bec of the current debt crisis nalugi investment nya. sorry na lng.

Isang magandang investment is buying property kasi mababa ang interest rates tapos wla pang bumibili kaya pa downhill ang value ng property ngaun. Yun nga lang you need $$$ kasi wala na ngaun nagpapautang ng 100%, you need at least 20% down, good credit rating, and a stable job/salary para makakuha ng mortgage sa bangko. Sayang kung sana nandito na ako bago mag global financial crisis, very lax pa yung lending system ng mga bangko. Hayz.

^ I believe it's not the person (i.e. planner, broker) that is going to screw your investments in the long run.

A safe investor must always have a good balance of low risk/ yield assets (cash deposits, fixed rate bonds) and high risk/yield assets (stocks, properties)...That way market turmoil will not deplete all your hard earned money 🙂

True, it's a combination of an incompetent adviser and a naive investor.

Well I'm just stating that a lot of comments I've read had negative feedbacks on investment advisers, so it's important that you do your share of the homework. Investment advisers should also be more transparent about the fees, investment options, realistic income projections, etc.

And maliit lang ang fee, yung nakita kong brochure sa colonial singil ata $150 per appointment. Dun sa bank ko libre lang ang consultation pero limited yung investment choices.

Hi there, newbie here. So, did anyone ever try investing in stocks in AU? Did you also keep your investments in the Philippines? What we are doing in Pinas right now is investing on life/pension plans, where you are essentially saving the money you are investing, while putting it in trust for your dependents. It's minimal risk and monitoring, as we've set a balanced (low vs. high yield/risk)portfolio. It will allow us to borrow against our life savings once it matures, while at the same time giving the kids some future financial security.

I'm also looking at different investment options here. Didn't wanna get stuck on the rat race forever. Lahat ng tanungin kong taga-rito superannuation lang ang alam nilang investment. Most people here believe the government will (or must) provide for them in the future.

Living in two countries with apathetic governments (Pinas and UAE) in the past, I got used to saving for myself. Sa National Bonds ako nag-ipon sa UAE (money which in turn fueled our migration here) and I'm looking for the same scheme here. Mukhang walang government bonds dito. Stocks and mutual funds are too risky especially for someone who's not too familiar with them like myself. Real estate ang next best option. Napakadaling magpaupa dito because of property managers. Kapag may-ari ka ng isang flat/house/unit, sitting pretty ka na lang and you will let the agents and property managers do all the work for you. Ni anino ng may-ari ng flat na tinutuluyan ko ngayon hindi ko kilala. Hindi tulad sa Pinas na sakit ng ulo magpa-upa.

Pati po sa Singapore ganito rin po. Di mo makikita ang owner. It has its pros/cons. Minsan gusto mo iwasan mga agents kasi may agent fee sila both to owner and renter.

Sa real estate ako nag invest. 1 residential and 1 commercial. Kalabit and forget ang style ko tutal self-funding naman dahil sa rental income at property managers na bahala sa lahat. In a few years fully-paid na tapos continuous pa rin cashflow para sa retirement or benta at a nice profit panggastos sa world tour hahaha!

Hindi bagay sakin stocks kasi trigger happy ako at nag panic sell everytime bumaba presyo kasi isang pindot lang sa internet eh sold na agad.
