Proof of functional English ability

Hello all,

Tatanong lang po...nag ffill-up na sana kami ng information to lodge and pay for visa BUT got stuck with this one question para sa dependent applicant...

<"Does the applicant have at least functional English language ability?" yes/no

I'm tempted to say "yes" pero eto na pala ang bagong exemption list:

Functional English

- The applicant must be able to communicate in English with the Australian state or territory government or an employer without the use of an interpreter.

The applicant must be able to provide evidence of one of the following to prove they have functional English:

An International English Language Testing System (IELTS) test result with an average band score of at least 4.5 for the four test components (speaking, reading, listening and writing). The test must have been completed within 12 months of visa application lodgement or can be completed during visa application processing.

A positive assessment by an Adult Migrant English Program service provider in Australia that the applicant has functional English.

Completed all years of primary education and at least three (3) years of secondary education in an institution in or outside Australia and all instructions were in English.

Completed at least five (5) years of secondary education in an institution in or outside of Australia and all instructions were in English.

Completed at least one (1) year of full-time study or equivalent part-time study towards a degree, a higher degree, a diploma or an associate diploma in an institution in Australia and all instructions were in English.

Completed a degree, a higher degree, a diploma or a trade certificate that required at least two (2) years of full-time study or training in an institution in or outside of Australia and all instructions were in English.

The functional level of the Australian Assessment of Communicative English Skills (ACCESS) test certified by the relevant testing body. The test must have been completed within 12 months of visa application lodgement or can be completed during visa application processing.

I'm the dependent of my husband and ang meron lang ako ngayon is certificate from my university stating that "English is generally used as a medium of instruction" (i guess yan lang ini-issue ng up na cert of english 🙁 )

So basically, hindi nakalagay na "all instructions were in English" kundi "English is generally used"...patay. So ano po ba ang dapat isagot sa question for proof of functional english, YES or NO?

Tapos, pwede kaya na i-yes ko muna tapos mag IELTS nalang ako pag hiningi ni CO or di tanggapin ung certificate of english ko? hihihi medyo mahal kasi ang ielts though alam ko naman etong mga exenses na to may patutunguhan (hopefully) --- pero kung pwede sana di na mag ielts, makatipid ng konti...

@nikah13 - continue with your application.. submit your documents..

pag sinabi ni CO na hindi enough ang english cert mo as dependent, then you need to take the ielts exam..

@lock_code2004 May case ba na ganun? Na irequire pa din mag IELTS kahit may college diploma, TOR at Cert of English as med of instruction? Thanks!

ayan nag bayad na kami at upload ng docs, medicals naman! Sakit sa bulsa pero hopefully it will be worth it!

the applicant's first language is English and they have a current passport from the United Kingdom, United States, Canada, New Zealand or the Republic of Ireland
a positive assessment by an Adult Migrant English Program service provider in Australia as having functional English
evidence of a trade, diploma or higher qualification awarded by an institution in or outside Australia which involved at least two years of full-time study and all instruction was in English
evidence of completion of at least one year of full-time or equivalent study in Australia for a diploma or higher qualification and all instruction was in English.

If I remember it correctly, a few weeks ago meron akong nabasa na at least 5 years of secondary education pero nawala na dyan sa list. I suggest i-provide nyo na lang yung primary and secondary certificate but have your partner review for IELTS para in case na hindi satisfied si CO, your partner is prepared to take the exam. </blockquote>

hi @rara_avis, question ko lang about sa IELTS ng hubby mo. bakit academic exam? ako kasi ang main applicant. general training test ang kukunin ko. eh plan namin kukuha na lang din sya ng IELTS para wala ng question si CO.

@familiaC That is the earliest available exam kasi and we do not want to test our luck by asking for an extension.

okay lang kahit ano kung dependent na hindi naman mag-claim ng partner skills points..

requirement ng DIAC is general ielts only... remember na mas mahirap ang academic..

medy naconfuse lang, sa EOI kasi wala naman ni-claim si husband sa 'Partner Skills' kasi hindi ako nag IELTS. And nung nag lodge kami ng Visa, sinagot nya 'YES' dun sa part ng functional English language ability. okay lang ba yon? hindi naman related yun sa pagclaim ng points from Partner Skills, kasi may another question pa for IELTS diba?

pero mag uupload naman kami ng College Diploma and TOR which should be enough, tama ba? please enlighten me 😃

@ladyinpink tama po ang sagot nyo dun sa part ng functional English language ability. Pareho lang din po ang ginawa namin nung nag-lodge kami way back in 2008. Nag-upload lang ng college diploma, TOR at saka certification from school that instruction was in English.

@ladyinpink kailangan po ang certification from school na ang ang medium of instruction is in English, else hindi tatanggapin yung diploma and TOR as proof of functional English. Hihingan kayo ng ielts results ng CO instead.

visa granted na kami today 🙂 ok naman yung diploma and tor ko for proof of functional english 🙂 di na humingi si CO ng certification from university. 🙂

hello, need help please, plan na po kasi namin magapply for 189 visa, i'm just worried about dun sa second installment, expensive. pwede po ba ko makarequest ng sample ng certificate na galing sa university? kasi ppaapply ko po sa in-laws ko na nasa philiipines. and additionally, my husband only studied 3 years in college ok lang po ba un? kaya walng diploma. ask ko din po possible po kaya na proof ung employment nya here at melbourne as a proof? here is my email j.anntdl@gmail.com kung sino mkkaassit for the sample ng cert. thank you

@janntdl .. another option is let your husband take the ielts test... if i'm not mistaken.. 6 yung score na kailangan.. this level is medyo ok naman ma achieve compared sa normal requirement na 7 sa lahat ng band...
