Me and my partner are already PR since late last year. we were sponsored by tassie but we moved to regional victoria eventually. i did not ask for permission because there was no agreement that we signed with the state BUT as courtesy, i informed them that we will be moving.
some sponsoring states have official agreement document (NT, NSW, etc) and if it states that permission is required, then it should be asked.
depending on the agreement with the sponsoring state, you may or may not require a permission. But it is always a good thing to say thank you and good bye ๐
