Tips to get an Accounting Job in Australia

Hi guys. I created this thread for those accountants who are making their big move to Australia in 2017. We can discuss in this thread about interview tips, resume format, salary expectations, accounting softwares, CPA, IPA, ICAA, etc. So we can prepare ourselves according to OZ job market. Tips and advice from accountants who are in OZ already are very much appreciated.

Hi @Nedz, I'm a CPA in the Philippines for more than 5 yrs. I just moved here last month and started looking for jobs few weeks ago. I realized na kht gaano katagal at kadami experience mo sa Pinas they wont bother to interview you kc want nila ng Australian local experience. when it comes to software SAP is not a big deal for them because most of the companies here are small so they're using MYOB and XERO. Never heard these softwares until I get here. I'm still looking for now paunti unti. Hehe nagmumuni muni lang ako as of the moment.

Hi @violet thanks for sharing your experience. Medyo may experience ako sa MYOB kasi yun ang gamit namin na accounting software kasi SME tong company ko. MYOB kasi is from Australia. San ka jan sa Australia?

@nedz good for u, from Perth ako, even if my MYOB ka u need to learn taxation parin. We'll kpag nkanap ako i'll share more. 🙂 So by January ka pla magmove?

Actually I was contacted na by one of the biggest recruitment agency here in Australia pero that was 2 weeks ago and til now wla pa ulet balita on vacancies.

@violet Oo. January 2017 pa ko move. Nag iipon pa ng pambaon. Kapit lang. For sure makakahanap ka nyan. Balitaan mo ko pag meron ka ng work and pashare ng tips. Goodluck!

Your credentials should match to their requirements para mainvite ka for an interview. Then after that, being confident and your communication skills plays a major role to get the job. Also, wait for black/white (contract) to ensure that you actually got that job =)

If you want to have a knowledge with taxation, enroll with H&R Block every Jan of the year, class will start Feb to May, then they will assess whether they could employ you or not. It will cost you more or less 550aud.. Atleast apply 20job openings per day to have higher chance of being employed and lots of prayers

@ms11 Salamat sa tips. Mukhang okay yang H&R Block. In case na ihire ka nila for permanent position ba? Or temporary lang like pag tax season lang?

Just moved to Sydney this week. My accomplishments were:

1.) Apply for MediCare - FYI only, req'ts: visa and passport

2.) Open a bank account - FYI only, req'ts: visa and passport

3.) Interview with an agent -

It was for an internal audit position. Apart from justifying how fit I am for the position, sinabi ko open din ako sa ibang accounting-related openings and whether it is for full-time or not since I know that local experience is almost necessary for professional jobs. I guess it was taken positively, but you never know if they'll really consider you. Crossing my fingers!

@batman sorry never had a chance to check.. been busy sa modules ko..

Yung session nila is just once a week, for 3hours. But it helps a lot especially if wala kang background sa tax dito..
