Australian Study Requirement
Dear Intending Migrant,
This is an announcement to advise you that a discrepancy has been discovered where intending migrants may have
misinterpreted a question in SkillSelect.
A number of EOIs indicate that intending migrants may have incorrectly have answered βyesβ to the following question:
Does the client meet the Australian study requirement for the Skilled Migration points test?
The Australian study requirements has a very specific meaning under Australian law. The definition of the Australian
study requirement is provided in the help text button link to the question.
To meet the Australian study requirement, your course or courses must meet all of the following requirements:
β’ be registered through the Commonwealth Register of Institutions and Course for Overseas Students (CRICOS)
β’ have been successfully completed
β’ have resulted in you receiving a degree, diploma or trade qualification
β’ have been completed in a total of at least 16 calendar months
β’ have been completed as a result of at least two academic years of study
β’ have had all instruction in English
β’ have been completed while you were physically in Australia at an Australian educational institute
β’ have been completed while you held a visa authorising you to study in Australia
Any failed course subject cannot be counted towards the Australian Study Requirement.
Please be advised that if you cannot satisfy the above requirements you should not select βyesβ when answering the
Australian study requirements question.
Your invitation to lodge a visa application is based only on the information presented in your EOI
If you lodge a visa
application and your points score is less than claimed in your EOI and invitation letter, your visa application may be
refused even if you are able to pass the points test or meet other threshold criteria.
If you receive an invitation and your points have decreased or your personal information is not accurate, you do not have
to proceed to make an application. You should wait for your invitation to expire and correct the information in your EOI.
As your EOI has been identified as one that may be affected by this discrepancy, we recommend that you review your EOI
and if required, update the information according to your circumstances.
For more information about claiming points please refer to our website at
