Hi @curiousmom , to answer your question make sure that you dig into a lot of research regarding subclass 489 visa.
One of the drawback of this was with visa 489, medicare and some other benefits with will not be provided, unlike visa 190/189. (Kindly double check on this) :-/
The visa 190 gets you directly there, but as mentioned by fellow members above, downside of it was you have to wait to get the nomination, at the moment even ACT is closed :-< . While on the other hand, visa 489 requires you to work/live for 4 years in a regional state while your visa is still valid, but later on you can apply for PR by the help of subclass 887 visa under some conditions. (another cost to take note) X_X
Overall, both visas can get you to permanent residence, it just a matter of choice and preference of the applicant. So if you have a choice and apply for either one, visa 190 is a great choice.
