Canada is too far from Philippines, which means air tickets are costly too. hehehe but australia is nearer and budget airlines are always ready whenever you feel like visiting to your home land.

Unique wildlife - you won't find kangaroos, emus, wombats or quokkas anywhere else

Online services - They're both good, but IMO Australian government websites are slightly better than the Canadian ones. There's also myGov and things getting integrated into it slowly but surely to become one login for everything government.

PBS - AU's Medicare edges out over Canada due to this. Nearly free/heavily subsidised meds. I'm not using it yet but I'm glad it's there when I'll need it.

Coffee - Australia's coffee scene is right up there with Italy, thanks to Italian immigrants in Melbourne. Aussies also invented the flat white, nuff said. If you really really like coffee you chose well in Australia. You will be absolutely spoiled here on how the coffee is so good.

Food - Beef is generally cheaper than pork, and dairy is relatively cheap (notice how big the milk section is on a grocery store)

Monies - Highest minimum wage in the world and no tipping is expected. Tradies/blue-collar work isn't stigmatised or classed as a "lower" type of work compared to other countries.

Culture - There's that chill laid back "she'll be right" culture. Australia also fully adopted the metric system so leave your calories and inches behind. On leave, Australia starts off with a minimum of 4 weeks leave right off the bat instead of leaving it to states/provinces to decide.

Beaches/nature - No question if you're more of the beach type than the ski/snowboarding type. Need something to fill up your Instagram feed? Pop over to one of the many beaches along the coast and point your camera anywhere. If you want to see snow you can always go to NZ, Japan, or one of the local Aussie resorts up in the mountains like Thredbo.

I think one thing to consider here also is job opportunities for white collar workers. I have so many friends, peers, colleagues, etc. who chose Canada and when they arrived, they have problem looking for jobs inline with their current profession or work in the Philippines.

That's because Canada, WES or any education assessment body by Canada doesn't fully recognize Philippine education. If they do, it will not be fully recognized but partial. Some employers also prefer immigrants to get Canadian education first before embarking on white collar jobs. What usually happen to new immigrants is they take blue collar job, labor job, etc. and then take classes on the side for their Canadian education. Before they can even get a white collar job inline with their profession/work in the Philippines.

For me, I don't want to go through that. My parents don't want me to go through that, a blue collar job or a labor job, etc. That's why I chose Australia, all of my friends, peers and colleagues who went there have the same job as in the Philippines. Their education has been recognized by Australia. I would rather take risk in becoming an Australian citizen first, and then trying to go to Canada for work or vacation. Australians have a lot of opportunities and benefits in Canada and vice versa. They're just making it hard for 3rd world countries like Philippines or India to go to Canada.

This is my opinion only, and the decision is all upto you in the end.

Are you already in Australia? Because what you just said about the difficulty in finding white collar job in Canada is likely to happen in Australia too. Yes, your overseas qualification may be recognized, pero hahanapan ka ng local work experience. As a migrant, it'll be hard to find that first job (it's a catch-22 issue).

I don't know much about Canadian culture and how people see blue collar jobs, but in Australia, a blue collar job is still a decent and dignified job. It's only people from third world countries like the Philippines who look down on those kind of jobs, because that's been ingrained in that culture. If you are planning to migrate to Australia, you should be more open-minded with what kind of jobs you are willing to take. I'm not saying that you should do blue collar jobs when you come to Australia, but what I mean is you leave the mindset or mentality about looking down on blue collar jobs in the Philippines.

I used to think the same way as you, but having worked in retail for over a year, I realized that it's actually not as bad as I imagined. It pays the bills and I don't have to think about work when I get home. As a casual employee, I can turn down or swap shifts with others if I have other commitments. I have the freedom to work as little or as many hours as I want. My employer pays super on top of my hourly rate; I get staff discount on products in our store. Of course there are KPIs to meet, and occasionally difficult customers to deal with, but overall I've enjoyed working in retail.

I've looked at the hourly rate of retail workers and compared it to my industry (architecture), and working in retail actually pays almost the same as working the regular office job (higher rate pa sa weekends). You'd be surprised how much blue collar workers (especially the tradies) earn in a year.

I've done thorough research on this one, and I believe this is based on your industry. In my industry, I've seen colleagues who worked blue collar jobs in Canada while furthering their studies in order to get white collar jobs after graduating. While for those who immigrated to Australia, they did not go through that at all. All of them were able to settle smoothly in Australia and were able to work in their white collar jobs they had in the Philippines.

Again, I don't have anything against blue collar jobs, they're an honest way of living compared to selling drugs or doing other criminal activities to earn money. But I got a college degree in order to work a white collar job and I worked hard for it. Finding out that what's usually happens in Canada, I don't want to go there and go through that. I'd rather stay in the Philippines.

It's based on industry or maybe based on your case, I don't you know your whole story.

I don't know your story as well, so maybe it is based on the industry, so I'll leave it at that. If the PH degree is recognized here and you don't need to do further study to get industry work, that's good news for you then. :smile:

From the migration trends nowadays, it seems like it's easier to migrate to Canada, especially if you have studied and worked there, because it means you can qualify for a different stream (CEC instead of just the FSW). In Australia, you get points for studying and working here, but your profile is still in the same pool of profiles as those from overseas. Canada's EE systems invites people with profiles meeting the minimum points, with no preference/prioritization based on the nominated occupation, whereas with Australia, they have an allocated number of invites for particular occupations (and the profiles with the highest points get invited).

Share lang ako dito. You can see on my timeline how long I have been in AU. Not sure how it works in Canada. Mahirap siya, it is good to have a mindset na you wabt to hit the ground running. Of course depende pa din siya kung ano iniiwan mong buhay sa pinas. Anyway, IT ako, I first moved sa melbourne. I could not get an interview, I don't know if sablay pag gawa ko ng resume or baka yung location. After a month, nag pasa na ko sa ibang industry. Bank call center gave me an interview. Aside sa usual customer service, kasama yung app support. So I felt na I could still angle this towards my IT background. Lumipat ako sydney dahil my wife got a better offer. I tried ulit magpasa ng resume sa IT companies. Less than two weeks I got an interview. Again I am not sure if dahil nasa sydney na ko or dahil sa local experience. I did not change anything sa resume ko. I just added yung local experience. So got that job, after a year, nag hanap ako ulit. After a month, I got an interview ulit na maganda yung offer. Naka lipat ulit ako.

I guess what I am saying is this, those considering AU, again depende sa buhay na iiwan mo. Hindi siya madali, dapat mind set mo mahirap siya. Pero you will get rewarded naman sa trabaho mo. I think sa au, you get rewarded based on your efforts and not actually based on how good you are. I will still suggest na ang end goal mo is to get that same job that you had sa pinas. Of course depending on how old you are. Medyo matanda na ko when I moved eh. I just think, if you get that same job as you had sa pinas dito sa AU, malaki igaganda ng buhay mo. Mas magaan pa trabaho mo at mas madami ka pa oras for yourself. If you try to reinvent yourself, baka medyo mahirap. I guess my conclusion is, if you get that same job or close to it na you had sa pinas, mas madali trabaho dito and mas compensated ka at mas madami ka oras. Good luck sa lahat.

I think a realistic mindset would be to hope for the best but prepare for the worst. The migration journey, particularly the experience in looking for the first job varies from person to person kahit na parehong-pareho kayo ng qualifications and work experience simply because you were looking for a job at different points in time, maybe in different places, and you don't present yourselves in the same way. Some employers evaluate applicants based on how they will fit in the team culture.

Siguro meron din dapat differentiation between a survival job and a blue collar job. A lot of blue collar or tradie jobs require an apprenticeship which last for 1 to 6 years, so you can't just apply for those jobs maski gipit na gipit ka na. The pay is also quite good and can even be better than some office jobs which is why there are locals who really opt for careers as tradies.

Sa tingin ko the best way to avoid getting a survival job is to ensure na malaki ang baon pag lumipat dito. That will take the pressure off needing to find a job, any job, right away and you can then afford to wait for an offer for a job you want.

Having said all that, may kapatid at pinsan ako sa Canada. Pareho naman silang nakakuha agad ng trabaho sa field nila and hindi kinailangan mag survival job. Swerte-swerte lang din talaga ang pag migrate.

True. Just prepare for the worst dn talaga and swertehan na lang dn. I have a friend na ngmigrate and was lucky to get a similar role nya dito sa pinas within a couple of weeks ng pagdating nya. Dasal lang dn talaga, sipag at diskarte. Sa nakikita ko kelangan lng dn na ilagay mo dn un sarili mo sa position na mgssucceed ka. Preparation talaga either monetary or skills wise.

🙋‍♂️ Me, I applied in express entry back in 2016 but during that time engineers were slowly taken out of the in demand professions and I had difficulty building the Proof of Funds, after a few years waiting for the demand for engineers to come back, it didn't happened and I aged so I lost some points again 😅.

Fast forward 2019 we tried applying in Australia, no POF required. But again it was put on hold because pandemic happened, then 2022 I got invited for SC189, and now waiting for grant...

In Canada, it's all about the points in my opinion, regardless of the occupations as long as you meet the quota points you'll receive the ITA, they don't have the occupations ceiling concept.

Lucky for me Australia has this and engineers were on high demand after the pandemic.

Excited for the big move next year!

Daming nag sasabi from other forums and Reddit na mas madali na daw Canada ngayon compared to AU. My original immigration target and "dream" country was Canada. I lodged an EOI in Express Entry as well but now I got an invite from AU despite a relatively low score than what would be expected to receive invites for my anzsco. Di ko alam kung anong basis nila to say na mas madali sa Canada? My current EE CRS score was pathetically low. lol. There is the PnP path (like AU's state nomination) but it is highly reliant on provincial connection like relatives, study, or experience/job offer in that particular province.

Depende siguro sa skill set and current situation. Halos lahat ng mga previous colleagues ko back in Ph who applied for Canada & Australia got a favourable outcome from Canada.

I think kasi mas aggressive mag advertise yung Canada. Pati I think mas malawak yung age limit nila. So in theory, mas madami talaga sila puwede tanggapin. dont know the exact figures, pero baka this year mas madaming naka lipat ng Canada? Plus I think factor kasi sa AU, humirap naman na talaga. Dati sobrang dali, now medyo gapang. Anyway, congrats sa ITA, good luck sa next move.

I applied Canada way back.mas malaki chance tlaga pag may relative or higher points sa IElts. I got invited 3 times in Australia even with 65 points only. Depende siguro sa occupation i guess
