newly grad looking for job

hi guys. im new here. just saw this site yesterday.

just wondering if there are any pinoys here from the blue mountains nsw? medyo konti lang yung asians na nakikita ko d2.

i came here last year, fresh engineering grad without any industry experience. its been tough cause im still looking for an engineering job after 6 months. nagwork naman ako as a receptionist but still yung goal ko is to work in my field.

but im not losing hope though. sana mas dumami pa opportunities for fresh grads.

nice.. medyo malayo nmn ang BM sa city.. baka walang masyadong offices dyan..

alam ko mostly tourism/hotel/resto ang mga meron dyan diba..

for sure nagtry kana sa city? anu pala engg field/specialization mo?

yeah..my aussie partner kc ako..d2 bahay nya sa BM..

bs civil engg grad ako..thesis is road/pavement technology..yup ngtry ako..no luck, kainis lang kc puro local exp hanap nila..now nag start na ko mag apply sa ibang state..baka swertehin 🙂

@emcee14 wow congrats! That visa is too good to be true talaga hehe...If I'm not mistaken there's an unwritten rule in that visa wherein sila na talaga bahala sa transition mo from training to employment. So for as long as you do your training/job well, you don't have nothing to worry about 🙂

just keep on trying. im a civil engineer too with 3 yrs experience sa pinas and i've worked on an australian project before going here in sydney last november. still haven't found work related to my field, but let's be positive =) for the mean time, just do good on your current receptionist job! cheers!

if you (or your partner) have a budget, maybe you can try the Professional Year program... check the info on the 476 thread.. may fee nga lang..

especially kung mag-apply ka ng PR... but i guess you wont need it, dahil pwde ka naman sponsor ng partner for PR after sometime... 😉

@emcee14 yeah sure irerefer kita pag nakakuha haha! yeah tama si lock code.. if you guys have a budget, enrol in a professional year program (10k per year).. medyo mahal lang nga.. one thing that can help you is magpa assess ka na sa engineers australia and lodge your permanent residency asap. kasi yung mga fulltime, entry level positions dito mas prefer nila ibigay sa mga pr at citizen..

sa elbi ako graduate! sa west sydney ako, villawood area =)

Professional Year has something to do with training and education po ba? Does it count as work experience as well?

Wow, this is a good thread. Exactly what I was looking for. Thanks @lock_code2004 for bringing me here.

By the way, my relatives in AU told me about enrolling in TAFE. Pwede ba mag-enroll dun once you hold a 476 visa? And is it a recommended way to have better chances of getting hired? O kumuha na lang nung professional year? 😃

^ Well it adds to your resume so yes, any Australian recognised qualification will help with your job prospects hehe

@dominick - i think pareho lang ang cost per year ng TAFE (international student fee) versus Professional Year for Engineering... around 10-12kaed..

So kung may mga technical skills ka na kailangan matutunan, then enroll in TAFE courses..

Pero kung general skills/exposure to AU Engineering/Industry lang kailangan mo.. i would say PYear (this will add 5 pts in your EOI pts if you will apply as skilled migrant visa later)

@lock_code2004, thanks for this. Mukhang mas okay nga ang PYear. Also, i just learned engineering-related TAFE courses usually take two years to be completed. Hindi siya feasible for 476 holders.
