90 point for Mechanical Engineer to be invited

Hello. Thank you very much for this informative site.
My husband and I are planning to.move to Australia. He is 43yo and I am 40yo. We plan to go through visa 189 since he is an Mechanical Engineer here in Japan. I want to know if the points for Engineer really is 90 right now? We calculated our points and the highest possible score is only 70. Is there still a chance for us po? Or talagang mahirap na for Engineers po to take the 189 path? Maraming salamat po kung ano man. Litong lito na rin lang po talaga.

Hi po ,so far yung scores with Mechanical Engineers is 90 points minimum tie breaker is 2 years back , ang chances na mabunot is very low. Try nyo po explore ibang visa subclasses 491 or 190 and every state has their own criteria in selecting applicants just run through each state website and their programs if align ba yung profile and apply lang, not advisable na fixated sa isang subclass due to limited spots at very competitive just like last year. And try to max out points from both of you if kaya or determined po tlaga na mag migrate or even consider employer sponsored pathway is also a good option na may PR . You mind sharing your husband point breakdown? makakatulong din po if you can gain skilled partner points ( Skills Assessment and English skills)

Thank you so much po sa reply niyo.
My husband po is 43 yo.

Electrical engineer po ako, same kami work experience sa Pinas, pero 7 years na po ako di nakakapagwork because of my small kids po.

Electrical Engineer may equal chances po kayo , basta get your skills assessed from last employer nila ,iaasess din pa nila yan if di ako nagkakamali for the last 10 years back yung cinoconsider nila. Lodge your EOIs bothways - as main and secondary and vice versa naman , your much younger kaya if maging forever visa holder sya is later nio pa lang malalaman ,basta do your best na makapag lodge kayo habang may time pa. Apply lang ! Kaya yan.

As long as you meet the minimum eligiblility of points there’s always a chance. I’ll be more concern with the age more than anything else. Given both of you are in your 40’s there is urgency of time. Focus on exhausting all possible ways to maximise points. Watch out at the EOI stage as it’s easy to make mistakes without knowing. I’ve had people come to me wondering why they’ve not been invited yet, upon review of their EOI’s they discovered how much they’ve missed out on things.

Because of your age, you’ve got this only chance to make it so make sure you’re on the right track.

With regards to employer sponsorship, I always tell my clients to be open to this. No harm to keep looking whilst working on the skilled visa. If any chance you find a sponsor for 482, grab it, enter on this visa whilst continue on waiting for an invite for 189/190/491. Once you get an invite transition into PR.

Your friend is likely referring to 482 transitioning to 186. There are uncertainties on this firstly there’s no guarantee if the employer will sponsor you for 186…. I wouldn’t rely on this option to sort your future to Australia.
