Catholic School vs State School vs Grammar School

vhoythoyvhoythoy MelbournePosts: 1,550Member, Moderator
What is the pros and cons of each school? If you will put your son/daughter on either of the 3 schools, which one would you prefer? Currently, I am leaning towards catholic school, because grammar school is a bit expensive, and I have no idea whether state school is also better (in terms of facilities, bullying, teaching method, etc.) =).

our pinoy friends with school-aged kids are studying in Catholic Schools. ok naman feedback nila, but it is much better for you to have a visit and talk with the school head and they will go over with you a few things and answer your concerns. I am too leaning with Catholic School for my child. :)

Local toowoomba news says that public schools in Darling downs needs AC so i think they still lack in the facility side.

State school is libre plus some miscellaneous fees (parang public school sa pinas), ung catholic schools around 3k (more/ less) annually, ung grammar school dito sa lugar naming around 12k annually so medyo mabigat sya hehe =)

Correct me if I'm wrong, merong ibang catholic schools na may discount kapag madami ka anak na naka-enrol sa same catholic school. Like for example ung 1st child na naka-enrol is full payment, the 2nd child will have 25% discount, the third will be 35%-50%. depende yata sa school yan. Also pag catholic family kayo priority kayo sa enrollment over other denomination. HTH

I think same din sa pinas. maayus din naman ang turo and ok din facilities kasi funded ng gov't. expect din na maraming students kasi nga free. may catchment area sila means kung saan ka nakatira, ikaw ang priority mag enrol sa sakop ng stateschool na un.

@brnaye So far, I have no qualms with State School. Yes, the classes are combined. Yung sa daughter ko combined ang Grade 5 and 6. :) Okay naman ang turo, they constantly have field trips and have different activities like gardening and may music tutorials din which is just $10 a week kung gustong mag avail. According to my daughter, mas hardcore ang turo sa Pilipinas, hehe Siguro sa dami na rin ng subjects plus yung time spent sa school. :)

Hi Cassey, i learned from a friend in Sydney during my last year visit na primary schooling daw is more on socialising lang daw. Strict academic teaching starts secondary or college daw? How true is it based on your exp? :)

Pwede namang start sila by the start of the next term. That's what we did when we moved here.

State schools are ok.. yung mga kids ko sa state school since we arrived here 2013.. i would suggest kung kaya ng bata at gusto din nila... try nyo din makapasom sa Opportunity Class or doon sa selective schools.. medyo mas advance yung turo compared sa mainstream..
