Hi good day!

Just want to ask po about tax.

if in case nag initial entry ka nung September 2016 then bumalik ka AU ng Oct16. Nagkawork ka ng Jan17 ilang months kaya ang for tax purposes?

is this for tax for residence purpose? i would say your residency would start frominitial entry even though you went out of the country and it's not for more than 3 months. since your PR, you will be tax as resident.

@agentKams thanks for the reply. First time kasi kami magfifile ng individual tax naisipan namin na kami nalang magfile di na kami kuha ng agent dahil straightforward ang income namin. yun lang major concern namin sa number of months na pwede namin inconsider dahil trinatry namin icompute yung refund namin.

@agrande curious lang bakit important iyong months to compute your refund? if you worked up to 30 June 2017, all salaries/wages paid to you will be taxed.

@agrande yung start nung tax residency is yung date na pumunta kayo sa AU with the intent for residing permanently. Based sa kwento mo, kung nasa AU na kayo from Oct '16, tax resident na kay since then kahit Jan '17 pa start ng work. Meron examples sa ATO website, meron din ata help dun sa question as tax return form mismo.

@agentKams kasi pagkakaalam namin yung threshold nakabase kung ilang months ang tax basis, prorated. Di namin sure.

my bad, yes your tax free threshold will be prorated if you are resident for part year. take into account LITO and medicare levy as well when calcualting your refund.

Hi, Ask ko lang sana what about for those on 457 visa and who started working since April 2017? Is there a possibility of tax return given that it's only 3 months and might be considered as a non-resident for tax purposes?

@agrande medicare levy - if you are getting medicare benefits yes. on top of tax iyan 2% of gross.

@agentKams thanks po sa reply. Lubus lubuin ko na po ang pagtatanong. :)Pwede ko po ba iclaim yung association membership ko prior to work. For instance nagkawork ako ng Jan17 tapos nagpamember ako last Nov16. Pwede po ba iclaim ng full yung binayad ko as other related work related deduction?

nope... you can't if you have to be very technical about it.

Just in case din po na may income pa ko nung june to nov sa pinas then activated yung visa ko nung sep.. need ko ba ireport yung income from june to nov. o yung sep to nov since dun lang activated yung visa ko. Or pwede din wag na. Since nagbayad na ko ng tax sa pinas. Thanks po sa help niyo

@agrande no po, work related deductions can only be claimed during the time you have already started work.
