Hi @lack14. Which city/state are you in right now and which area in infosec do you specialize in? Consulting / Risk? Operations? Red/Blue team? I'm also trying my luck at independent migration as an ICT Security Specialist. Just want to get a feel of my chances and what's waiting for me in there. Target location is either Melbourne or Sydney.

Hi @pinoyaub0y Ive been working for more than a year now in Melb. Im a Sec Ops manager but with background on Risk and Compliance/GRC as well. There are a lot of opportunities but you’ll still need connections inside or a recruiter to take a chance on you and endorse you to a client.

PM me once you have your visa and add me in LinkedIn, I can endorse you to my network here in Melbourne.

Thanks @lack14. Will surely add this to my todo list. Glad it worked out for you eventually! I'm also trying to get employer sponsorship on the side to increase my chances. I also did some security assessment work in the past and at the moment the bulk of my experience is in IR and security operations.

IR is definitely in demand @pinoyaub0y we actually have an opening for SOC with IR skillset but unfortunately we dont sponsor anymore. Try seek, there’s a higher chance you can get sponsorship compared to other fields. Only downside is youre tied to the contract. If they dont renew you and you dont have a visa yet, you have to find another sponsor or risk going back home.

As for the visa processing, should be fast. My processing visa time from EOI to visa approval was roughly 2 months. Goodluck!

Thanks for the tip @lack14! Just waiting for my DFA authenticated documents and my ACS submission should be on its way! I already sent out several applications via seek.com.au (just this morning). Hopefully my phone rings and I get scheduled for an interview. I agree about the cons on being sponsored. I know a company who's been sponsoring employees from my previous company and those guys weren't being paid much compared to some people I know who have been working on PR status. Figure this, twice as much for a similar position. The disparity is quite significant. Hopefully I don't end up in the same predicament by aiming for a sponsorship.

@pinoyaub0y try researching din the company muna. Syempre fastest path pa din ang sponsorship. If you think you can get your PR before you contract ends, then go for the sponsorship. Also, in my experience, they wont call you if you dont have an AU address and phone number, even if you have work rights already. One strategy is use a friend's address (with his consent) and buy a prepaid number sa AU. Only downside is if they want to interview you asap, you'll have to buy a ticket asap too :)
