Filipinos with IT jobs in Melbourne

2rmobile2rmobile MelbournePosts: 38Member
edited January 2013 in Victoria - Melbourne
I only know 2-3 Filipino software developers/IT in Melb. It would be good to know others out there. I'll kick off a list.. append a line with your:

username | home suburb | work suburb | role | expertise (please include only your top 5 expertise/technology. Dont add too much tech, it might clutter the list later on)

@2rmobile | Wantirna | Rowville | Senior Sofware Developer | RubyOnRails Agile GIS Postgres iOS

Keeping an eye on this thread. My target destination is Melbourne. I hope more IT persons come up. :)

Hi, still a looong way to go, but I was wondering how's the Java market there in Melbourne? Are most jobs in the CBD area? I was wondering, coz usually sa mga job postings, I would usually see CBD area, but meron din Eastern/Western Suburbs? Malayo ba un sa "city area"?

My husband is in the field of java/j2ee. He's based in singapore. We'll be moving to melbourne this february. We are praying and hoping na di sya mahirapan maghanap ng work.

    GOD will provide.

    hi yukie77, LokiJr and Pau92...

Yup most of the jobs sa CBD. I havent been to the city in ages.. siguro lagpas 1 taon na. From box hill to st kilda, took me 1.5hours papunta and pabalik, 2 train and tram. hassle talaga. Nood ako ng video or basa ng libro... etc.

After 1.5 years of working sa CBD, i gave up.. less quality time sa mga bata, pagod, etc. I started looking for a job sa east where i live... Pero i think pagdating nyo dito, mukang sa Melb CBD ang bagsak since you want to get a job right away..

@2rmobile wow! thanks for the information. Inisip ko palang ung rate and exacto namention nyo! Pm ko kayo to get your email address so when the time comes I can ask you if fair ung mga rate (super positive thinking hehe). I am not really rushing to leave SG as my sisters are here as well, so I was hoping should God willing I get all my documents sorted out, maximize all the time before initial entry and hanap ng job while I am still here. Do you think possible pala yun? I mean to get hired while you're still not there yet and advisable ba yun? Baka mas maganda ang rate pag andyan?

@pau92 I am currently in SG too :) God bless, lapit na!

@yukie77 either mababa or super taas nman kpag remote telecommute work at very rare din. I dont suggest this. Kung malapit k n dumating say a month or two, pwede mo email yung mga priority companies n gusto mo pasukan...

Good question! hehe Also interested in the answer. Follow-up question rin po @2rmobile- Any industry knowledge that's in demand there? Like dito sa SG banking seems to be a good market.

I remember i took SCJP pero ang tagal na nun.. yes i did java back then and just shifted and flowed into new programming languages depende sa demand.. May mga pailan-ilan akong nakita na job post (siguro mga 3-5 pa lang) na SCJP is a plus pero hindi naman required.. It doesnt mean na may SCJP eh pasok na... i think yung work experience ang pinaka heaviest deciding factor kung fit ka sa job.. I think for the usual java jobs.. hibernate, spring mvc etc ang makikita nyo..

Yup SG has a good finance industry.. wala naman silang resources jan since maliit lang ang area. Um.. pero i think the finance industry is not doing well here.. last year there were big cut back in jobs from ANZ.. removing redundant jobs etc. I read the theage.com.au every morning a few 10-15 mins to get in touch with the real world.. Most of the big banks dont directly post sa seek.. they use recruiters/head hunters.. mahahalata nyo naman sa job post "An iconic australian brand in the finance industry is seeking a blah blah" (obvious na one of the big4 bank un..)

Engineering/Mining boom and its derivative industries (energy, logistics, transport, etc) ang napapansin kung ok. A few days back NBN co is looking for programmers etc... so i think ok lang din ang telecoms industry..

hehehe. baligtad naman tayo. ako naman sa CBD nakatira tapos ang work ko e sa south suburb. dito ko may Mulgrave. heto kasi nauna ako natanggap na work, so grab ko na kagad though may tumatawag pa din na from CBD area. pero ok nanaman ko dito sa current work ko. pag pauwi ako hindi din naman hassle sa tren kasi nga ang wave ng tao pag pauwi e from CBD to suburb. e ako baligtad. hehehe. kaya halos wala pa kami sampu sa tren pag umuuwi ako. ayun lang just want to share. :)
