SkillSelect process explained in more details:
The process looks long and tedious... do it one step at a time... and I promise it will be worth it at the end.. ;)
If you have more clarification.. just post your question and our members will gladly answer..

    1. Identify if your occupation/skill is in the SOL/CSOL
    a. SOL – Skilled Occupation List Sched 1 – applicable for visa 189 (Independent) , Visa 489 (Relative Regional Provisional)
    b. CSOL – Consolidated Sponsored Occupation List Sched 2 – for Visa 190 (SS), Visa 489 (Regional Provisional)
    c. If your occupation is not in the list, check other job titles and read the ANSZCO Code job description and see if you have the same job description.

    2. Understand the different Visa subclasses:
    a. Visa 189 (Independent) – Permanent Residence Visa, No restrictions on where to live and work
    b. Visa 190 (State Sponsored) – Requires State Sponsorship. Permanent Residence Visa. Restricted to live and work for 2 years on the Sponsor State.

There are two types of Visa 489:
    c. Visa 489 (Regional Provisional) – Requires Regional Sponsorship. Restriction to live for 2 years and work for atleast 1 year in the regional area before you can apply for PR. Provisional Visa valid for 4 years.
    d. Visa 489 (Relative Regional Provisional) - Relative Sponsor must be living in a designated area. Restriction to live for 2 years and work for atleast 1 year in the regional area before you can apply for PR. Provisional Visa valid for 4 years.

    3. Understand the EOI points system (See other threads)
    a. Points are based on: Age, assessed Work Experience, assessed Education, IELTS score in each band (not Overall)
    b. If your EOI total points is less than the passmark 60 pts, look at the other points if you can claim some of them.
    c. Other points: Partners Skills Assessment, Work/Education in Australia
    d. Other Points : Visa 190 State Sponsorship, Visa 489 Regional Provisional
    e. Other Points: Relative Regional- make sure they live in a designated regional area
    f. The higher the total EOI points the faster you will get a visa invitation (for Visa 189/489 Relative), while a approved State Sponsorship (Visa 190/489 Regional) application will give you an automatic invitation even if your EOI points is exactly 60pts.

    4. Consider who should be the primary applicant (of course pag single ka pa lang.. ikaw lang yan).
    a. Check the EOI points system, kung sino ang mas mataas ang points
    b. Who can get a higher IELTS Score
    c. Occupation/Skill is on what List (SOL/CSOL?)
    d. Who can get a higher chance of positive skills assessment (See No.4)
    e. Check occupation limit in DIAC .
    f. Check State Sponsorship requirement (if required. See No.9)
    g. You can also claim Partner’s Skill - 5pts, but will also require assessment.

    5. Understand the requirements of your Assessing Authority. Check their website.
    a. Minimum number of Years of work experience related to your nominated occupation
    b. IELTS Academic or General Test?
    c. Check if IELTS is required for the assessment, otherwise you will just take this while waiting for the assessment (to save time), or after the assessment (if you want to be sure)
    d. Documents required (Passport, Diploma, TOR, COE+Job description, Payslip/ITR)
    e. Requirements on how to make your documents “Certified True Copy”
    f. Other requirements ( example: CDR for Engineers Australia, RPL – for Australian Computer Society if you don’t have an IT degree, Original Picture CTC – for Vetassess)
    g. Is their application online/paper-based, or both?

6.Prepare your documents for the Assessing Authority. Submit if your Assessing Authority does not require IELTS)
    a. for example: ACS and Vetassess do not require IELTS in their assessment
    a. while Engineers Australia requires IELTS result as part of the assessment.

7.IELTS Exam (See Number 3 also)
    a. IELTS Academic/General Test ?
    b. Check if IELTS is required for the assessment, otherwise you will just take this while waiting for the assessment (to save time), or after the assessment (if you want to be sure)
    c. If you are applying for Visa 190 (SS) / Visa 489 (Regional Provisional), some states/occupations have IELTS minimum score in each band. Check the state’s immigration website.
    d. Claiming IELTS points is based on each band and not on the overall band scores (OBS).

8.Your Skills Assessment Result. Your assessment should contain the following which will be the bases of claiming points in your EOI:
    a. Educational Qualification: whether it is comparable to AU degree (15pts) or diploma (10pts)
    b. Number of years of work experience assessed as relevant to your nominated occupation.

9.Prepare/Submit your SkillSelect EOI – Expression of Interest. You will need the following information to claim your points
    a. Personal Information
    b. Assessment Result
    c. IELTS Result
    d. Other points (Example: Education/Work in AU, Partners Skills Assessment)
    e. Check carefully the summary of your claimed points before submitting your EOI. Your visa invitation will be voided if you claimed for something that you cannot prove.

    10.State Sponsorship/Relative Sponsorship (If required)
    a. If you require SS, visit their website and make sure that your occupation is in their State Nomination Occupation List (otherwise you won’t get a sponsorship). Check all the 7 States to see which one can give you a State Sponsorship.
    b. Prepare the requirements and submit your application. Normally they will require your EOI reference number, so once SS is approved, you will get a visa application invitation automatically
    c. If you require Relative Sponsorship, your sponsor will submit sponsorship documents. (Check DIAC’s Website)

    11.Prepare for additional documents
    a. Passport/Birth Certificate of all your dependents (Partner/Kids)
    b. Secondary applicants (Married/Engaged/De-facto) Requirements (See other thread)
    c. English requirement for Secondary Applicants (See other thread)

    12. Check your Online EOI/Email if you receive a Visa Application Invitation
    a. Submit Visa. Complete eVisa application form. Pay Visa Fee.
    b. Attach documents in your eVisa online application.

    13. Police Clearance NBI/Medical Exam
    a. NBI and Medical Exam validity date is 1 year. And it will affect your Initial Entry Date. So make sure that you know what will happen if you process these in advance.
    b. Either wait for your Case officer,
    c. Or, check the CO allocation time in DIAC’s website. Estimate your date of visa submission and the CO allocation date, and then process these documents based on that. (Example, for Visa 189, CO allocation is around 7 weeks, so therefore you may choose get NBI/Medical on 6 or 7weeks after you submitted your Visa application)
    d. But if you need to get a Police Clearance from other countries (where you lived for at least 12 months), you can start processing especially if it will take months to secure the clearance.
    e. Some countries require letter from DIAC/CO.. so you have no option but to wait.

    14. VISA GRANT!!
    a. If there are no more additional documents required.
    b. If your medical result is not “referred” for further evaluation
    c. Mag blow-out.. don’t forget to Thank the One…
    d. Satisfy your Initial Entry Date in your Visa grant.

    15. See you in the Land Down Undah…..

thanks so much lock_code2004. i'll bookmark this page as reference. right now nasa gathering pa din ako ng ACS reqts. Tagal magbigay ng COE mga company ko, hayz. Pero at the same time, nag iistart nako mag research about IELTS.

Money, time and effort. Hanggang dun sa time ng paghahanap ng work pag nasa OZ na. Medyo natatakot ako pag iniisip ko. :) Napapaisip ako if it's really worth it. For example, you already have a good paying job here in the Phils. (example lang almost 6 digits na salary na ...note: hindi po ako ito ha, sample lang), is it still worth it na mag work sa OZ?

Hinahanap ko yung thread regarding successful migrants and their stories. :) thanks.

    - Copy of Certified True Copy? - Nope this is NOT acceptable.
    - They don't need CHED/Malacanang/DFA stamp at all..

    either:
    a) you submit the certified copy of TOR from Ched (not the copy of the Certified True copy)

    b) Get your original copy (kahit luma na basta original), photocopy it, and have the photocopy CTCed... thats it.. submit the CTCed photocopy of the original.
    - i suggest you read other specific requirements from your assessing authority

@lock_code2004, sobrang helpful to sir! my wife and I are planning to try our luck next year, 2014. d2 kame currently sa Sg for 3yrs now. I am working as Civil Engr(exp, 5yrs) and my wife is a Food Technologist(exp 5yrs). pinagaaralan ko n muna lahat ng procedures sa forum na to instead of hiring an agent kaya salamat sa breakdown na napost nyo lock_code2004. medyo mahirap pa rin intindihin ang mga visa classifications, tanong ko lang about sa "subclass" (495, 496, 475 and 487), pano naman po ung sa classifications nito? may mga nabasa akong ibang thread at nakita ko mostly na Civil Engineer, ung visa nila is "subclass 475". hope you can advise in which visa pwede ung job ko. Thanks in advance!

@ricky_ike28 - hi. there are two major classifications:

    SKILLED MIGRANT VISA
    - yun pong three visa subclassess 189/190/489 described in this thread are for skill migrant.
    - may passmark po eto.. EOI points should be atleast 60pts.
    - as you've read above, kailangan po ng assessment ng skills nyo before you can apply..

    EMPLOYER SPONSORED:-

these visa subclassess is not really tied up to any particular job/occupation.. but instead, eh kung anu po ang pwede sa case nyo, like kung ilan nga po ang total EOI points nyo..

    understand the process above..
then calculate your expected EOI points here:

@lock_code2004, thanks again for the info. based po sa nabasa ko regarding visa subclasses 189/190/489, parehas lang cla lahat ng amount sa lodging ng application (AUD 3060). Mas high chance ba na maapprove and application pag under 489 since nanominate ka under specific state (incase positive and response sa EOI)?. i think i can get 65pts sa test with respect sa degree and job exp ko.

plan ko po magapply by next year since my wife is now 3mos pregnant. para na rin isasama ko sila ng baby namin sa application. is there a high chance ba na maapprove ang application kapag kasama family since parehas lang naman ng bayad so wala namang mawawala sakin.

    - wala po sa visa type ang chance/probability ng ma-approve or not, nasa total points po nyo..
    - Visa type only affects the speed of the allocation of Case officer..
    - be very wise on choosing the visa types.. mas okay na po ang PR, you only choose Temp visa489 kung kulang tlaga sa points..
    - wala din effect kung single/family.. but of course, advisable na isama na dahil same lang nmn ang fee..

Hello guys! I'm new in this site, tanong Lang po... I'm a Medical Technologist, at gusto ko rin po mag-migrate sa Au. Any idea po if paano Ako mag start sa papers ko... I already have 14 yrs of exp. on my field. Ok din ba kumuha ng agent? Any idea or remarks about Voitin Walker and Respall if alin sa dalawa ang mas better agent if ever I need one. Thank you :)

There is what you call an initial entry deadline that will be given once you are issued a visa. This is usually a yr after your medical examination or your police clearance, whichever is earlier. Just enter Australia before this date to activate your visa, afterwards pwede ka rin umuwi muna sa Pinas if feel mo. Some people do this para lang maactivate yung PR Visa nila afterwards balik Pinas to continue sa pag-iipon for the permanent move.

Pwede mo naman pasunurin ang family mo, whatever suits your preference basta lang makapasok sila for the initial entry deadline.

I had an initial assesment with Respall.. sabi may 60 points daw ako. and they will discuss to me how I came up with that number when I attend their seminar on weekends. Pero parang alam ko na kung pano nacompute yun. :)

yes (if that is your assessing authority based on your nominated occupation)
assessment should be done on your education qualification and work experience..
the result of your assessment will be the basis for claiming EOI points..

Kung hindi ka ma-assess, or kung negative ang result ng assessment then you can't apply for EOI/visa at all..

please read the start of the this thread for the whole process..
check the website of your assessing authority regarding their requirements..
