I just come across this particular topic below that says:

You don’t mention your citizenship status, but one thing to consider is that this is a goverrnment town. Your husband has a job now, but if he wants to change jobs or you finish school and want to work, and you aren’t citizens, you may find it hard to get professional work (the majority of which is working for or consulting to government). Citizenship is a requirement for many such jobs.

Yup totoo po yan citizen po ang puedeng mag apply sa mga government offices.

dipende rin naman yan sa skilled mo. May mga skilled position naman na kahit permanent resident puede mag apply dipende sa qualification mo.

Citizenship ay 4 years residency naman kaya hindi naman siya mahirap makamtan.

What's interesting is that government jobs there earn top salaries (in a legitimate manner!) hehe

@faa317, tingin ko nasa diskarte po ninyo maghanap ng trabaho at sumagot sa interview. Saka siyempre dapat in demand ang trabaho niyo sa Australia 🙂

Our best bet is to check out seek.com.au, canberratimes.com.au and go to jobs as a lot of local companies advertise in there. Hth!

Hello everyone, we were recently granted a State-Nominated visa (Permanent)...parating po kami buong pamilya this February 2013. Ang problema po namin ngayon eh wala pa po kami matitirhan dyan and by checking sa mga short-term accommodation eh grabe ang mahal. Mas mababa sana kung diretso na rent, which I think hindi puede na agad-agad, kasi madami pa daw requirements. Baka po meron kayo alam diyan na nag-ooffer ng shared accommodation na mas mura compared dun sa mga naka-post online.. Maraming salamat po.

@TotoyOZresident Sir, ask ko lang if ever ba, pwede bang maghanap ng housing even outside the border of canberra, yung nsa territory na ng NSW while your work naman e nasa canberra. mukhang mas mura kasi ang rental outside ng canberra mismo. thanks

Yeah puedeng puede. Mostly sa Queenbeyan nakatira. 20 minutes nasa ACT kana. check mo sa www.allhomes.com.au regards.

To OP, in my line of work hindi lang citizenship ang kailangan, recruiters require me to have special security clearances to work in the government even consulting firms down there.

Just to add to Davidx23's comment, may iba ibang levels yung security clearances (e.g. Baseline, NV1, etc.) depende sa requirement ng government agency at depende sa exposure mo data na hahawakan mo.

If you will be working in a consulting company whose clients are government agencies then sila magbabayad niyan para sa iyo pero kung ikaw magbabayad masakit sa bulsa plus minimum 6 months before mo makuha yung clearance.

hi guys! me and my wife is moving in canberra this feb 2014. share naman ng kwento pano kayo nag survive and if may alam kayong pwede maki share ng accomodation, (or pwede nyo muna kami kupkupin hehehe mas okay! lols) etc

Hi Lloyd. yan din prob ko accomodation. I have a ticket na sa sept 27 but have no accomodation yet. 🙂
