Engineering Assessment - Masters Degree

Hi everyone.

I have a questions regarding sa engineering skills assessment. Pwede ba ang maging basis ng skills assessment is yung master's degree ko? Yung work experiences ko kasi best aligns sa master's degree. To give context, I have a masters degree in energy engineering and I work sa renewable energy industry ng more than 5 years na. Yung engg bachelor's degree ko walang board exam and is not related to my work experience. Also, under which category ito mag fafall under since hinde sya yung typical na engg i.e. Civil, Electrical.

kaelel18 Rule of Thumb, same with IT, important I check mo ang nakalagay na duties and responsibilities sa ANZSCO. If ever nagpalipat lipat ka ng work, try mo i-ailor fit sa ANZSCO yung mga job details mo. Kahit portion lang, mas I highlight mo cya para makita na aligned sa ANZSCO job desc and actual duties mo sa work.

Hi! Yes, puwede mong gamitin ang master’s degree mo as the primary qualification for your skills assessment, lalo na kung mas aligned ito sa work experience mo. For Engineering Australia (EA) and most assessing authorities, the requirement is that your qualification must be relevant to the ANZSCO occupation you are claiming, and your employment must closely match the engineering discipline — it doesn’t have to be your bachelor’s degree.

Excerpt from the MSA booklet (“Assessment of Accredited Qualifications”):

“The assessment of Australian and Accord accredited qualifications is primarily based upon undergraduate qualifications. However, some postgraduate qualifications have been accredited as standalone qualifications. If your postgraduate qualification is not independently accredited and you do not have an accredited undergraduate qualification, you will need to submit a Competency Demonstration Report (CDR) assessment.” – Engineers Australia

This indicates that a postgraduate qualification can be used, pero kung hindi accredited ang master’s mo, you may need to go via the CDR pathway.

Just sharing general info based on EA guidelines — best pa rin to double-check directly with Engineers Australia or a registered agent for your specific case.

I have another query. Not sure if this should be in a separate thread, but I'll just post here na lang. For engineering degrees not found sa ANZSCO, will it fall under Engg nec ba? Yung masters degree ko kasi wala dun sa ANZSCO code. Thanks for the response.

very common to for specialised fields like Energy or Renewable Engineering. Kung hindi lumalabas yung exact title ng degree mo sa ANZSCO, normal lang ‘yan because ANZSCO lists occupations, hindi course names. In situations like this, kadalasan pumapasok siya under Engineering Professionals (nec) – ANZSCO 233999, which is the catch-all category para sa mga specialised engineering roles. Ang tinitingnan talaga ni Engineering Australia is kung aligned ang job duties at competencies mo sa occupation, not the exact wording ng degree title. Another possible pathway din is Engineering Technologist (233914) kung mas applied or technical implementation ang nature ng work mo. Overall, ang pinaka-importante is na match yung content ng qualification mo and yung actual work experience — and yes, EA accepts master’s degrees kahit hindi listed yung exact title sa ANZSCO.

Regarding sa next question mo — hindi advised na mag-apply ka muna as Professional Engineer (PE) tapos “bahala na” si Engineers Australia (EA) kung ibababa ka sa Engineering Technologist (ET).

Important to note:

EA does NOT automatically reassign you
If you apply under the wrong category, EA can issue a negative outcome because the qualification and duties must match the category you selected.

Piliin mo agad yung category na pinaka-tugma sa:

level ng qualification mo
nature ng trabaho mo
scope ng engineering duties mo

Most applicants choose the category that BEST matches their actual role — hindi “highest”, but most accurate.

So which is “better”? “Better” = whichever matches your actual daily duties.

WARNING: Mas mataas ang PE category, pero hindi ibig sabihin mas “advantageous” kung hindi match sa duties. hindi rin “safe” kasi hindi automatic ire-reclassify.

If ang job duties mo are, design + optimisation of energy systems, performance modelling, system-level engineering decisions, project engineering, stakeholder engineering decisions...
You may qualify as Professional Engineer.

Kung:
implementation, monitoring, technical support
operations, applied solution deployment...
Engineering Technologist is more accurate and safer.
