Hi Everyone!
I'm still on job search too but believe that I'm at the tail end. (insert most hopeful face here!) Waiting on feedback from 1st/2nd interviews. Anyway, for anyone who's confused where to start.. especially with resume writing... I'm posting the format I used that has gotten me several interviews so far. Genuinely hope this helps! Had to learn it the hard way.
[Present however you want, the list below contains the information I included and the order I placed it in]
[Name]
Note: It helps to just display the (formal) name that you are usually called with (no, not nickname) and your last name. Treat this as your brand; this is the first thing hiring managers/recruiters see. E.g. I have 3 first names so I just displayed my preferred name + last name.
[Contact Details]
Note: The basics – phone no., email address (business/professional one, no ilovecandy213@gmail.com), LinkedIn URL
[Profile]
Note: A bulleted list of your key qualifications, experiences and skills. Treat this as your mini-cover letter. Again, this is the first thing hiring managers/recruiters see so the intention is to still capture their attention at this point. Remember to use brief, concise and easy-to-digest words. Normally, they will only spend a few seconds browsing through one resume so ambiguous or long, complicated sentences are a No-no (I learned this the hard way).
[Work Experience]
Note: The basics --- Company Name (company website, optional / if it helps), employment dates, employment type {full time or part time etc.), job title (if you held a customized job title, you can include a general/widely-used but descriptive title in brackets), job description
Note: Job description – this is the main event. Tell your story through the STAR format (Situation – what is the problem?, Task – what has to be done?, Action – what did you do?, Results – how did that go? If you have figures, so much better.). Let this section showcase your achievements while you are detailing expertise and skills. Again, use brief, concise and easy to digest sentences.
