I've been reading about the Internship program offered by Navitas. Its seems as a good way to obtain local Experience. Has anybody tried this?

Hello baka me alam kau na cash on hand po na pwede ako i refer? I need a job po so badly. Sa feb pa.po kasi ako pwede mag work talaga kasi feb pa.start ang pasok ko pumunta ako maaga thingking pwede ako mag cert 3 aged care kaso nag ka problem sa sched ko kaya eto mauubos na.pera ko. Sa truganina po ako malapit lang sa werribee kung may nakaka alam po.thanks po

Two months narin kami dito and until now wala parin ako work 🙂 well, may possible na pero wala pa yong contract atsaka contract role lang siya initial 6 months...

Anyways, Nagstart ako magapply about a week after we arrived in Sydney. That same week nakareceive ako ng interview schedule, direct hire. After the interview, binigyan ako ng exam. Pero hindi naging ok ang result 🙂. apply pa more...

Second ko naman, nagsend ako ng application through seek and then sa hapon tinawagan ako direct hire din ito. Interviewed pero may mas fit daw. rejected nanaman 🙂

Third, got a call from recruiter, this time para sa start up. Medyo mahirap at madugo at umuwing luhaan nanaman ako.

Forth, meron nanaman direct hire pero contract role. eto yong hinahantay ko ngayon. Bale one month na kung susumahin since they contacted me.

Fifth, naschedule naman ako for a start up uli pero nahirapan ako uli sa exam and di ko na masyado naayos kasi nga hinihintay ko tong forth na position...

Parang every week since dumating kami ay may schedule ako ng interview. May mga tumatawag din na recruiters pero hanggang dun lang, medyo di pa ako sanay makipagusap pero sa tingin ko dapat sa calls na yon mabenta mo agad skills mo. Dalawa lang sa recruiter ang tumawag sakin and naset ako for interview sa client pero the rest hanggang tawag lang.

Madami rin ako rejection letters sa seek hehe. Pero ang napansin ko mas mabilis tumawag kapag direct ka nagapply sa company.

Recently, may tumatawag sakin mga recruiters kahit di na ako nagpapasa. Sign to na meron paring mga trabaho na available siguro hindi lang talaga para sakin at di rin fit ang skills ko. Or medyo tanga rin ako sa interviews 😃

Wala parin ako work pero maganda naman ang experience ko sa paghahanap ng work dito. Kasi nung una ineexpect ko wala talaga tatawag sayo or papansin, pero meron din pala. Need lang magprepare ng sobra sobra para kapag may interview e maging ok.

Sa ngayon waiting parin.... itutuloy ang susunod na kwento hihi...

@J_Oz and to all: Be careful sa mga pagdisclose nyo sa ibang agent ng mga companies na naapplyan nyo normally sasabihin ng mga agent na meron silang mga roles para sayo then magtatanong sila kung san ka na nagapply but in the end ang main objective nila is alamin ung company na naapplyan mo na then they can call that company para magprovide ng services nila or other candidates. So minsan tumataas lalo yung competition sa role.

@dantz15 Yeah! Pano pala ang answer kapag nagtanong sila. Usually sinasabi nila na parang baka kasi yong role eh naapplyan mo na with different recruiter. Mas ok ba kung ask mo sila kung anong client nila kung tumawag sila sayo. In this case di mo madisclose ang company na napplyan mo pero malaman mo kung ano ung company na iooffer nila sayo...???

@J_Oz yup tama unahan mo na kagad sila to ask anung company. Medyo mahirap sa start kasi magaling din sila magpaikot, i-ddivert ka nila ng konti pero at the end wala pa silang nasasabi na company syo after nun. If na-corner ka nila sa conversation make sure just to mention only 1 or 2. And make sure na tapos ka na sa application mo sa company na yun (like nag exam ka na but unsuccessful). Don't give details sa companies na waiting ka ng feedback or on-going yung application mo.

On being a cleaner:

Sharing my experience here. I arrived last quater of 2013 on a 190 visa. Learned from the experience of friends who went here before me and prepared a plan for myself.

Didnt get a job for my skill (considered a generalist job) but was able to get into odd jobs on my first month -as a cleaner.

To make the long story short, 2 years later I'm still a cleaner. Was able to move out of my house share 3 months into the job. I was lucky because although I was on a casual post, my roster manager gave me full time hours 5-6 days a week. Got my own unit to rent (250/week) and is able to send money and save. I was able to travel to Europe this year visiting friends.

After 7 months I was offered permanenet part time role. Whilst working, I have one other casual job also as a cleaner. My employer paid for certificates in special cleaning that I added on my resume immediatey and then the offers came in to work in other facilities.

Looking back, I never knew I would make a career as a professional cleaner before I came here. All these in my first 2 years. I still once in a while browse through Seek to look for jobs related to my original skill. I dont mind carrying on working as a cleaner, pero sa mga papunta pa lang dito or sa mga andito na at naghahanap pa rin ng trabaho, don't lose hope. Who knows you might like what you do outside your comfort zone.

Totoo din ang mga sinabi ng iba dito sa forum, you build networks with the Aussies. They're nice people. You occasionally meet the rude ones, but then again, may mga rude din naman na pinoys. Huwag mashado dibdibin. I was lucky I was given this break by my bosses. They like our work ethic as pinoys.

I still hope one day to get into my skill. But for now, I would say I'm ok.

as for sharing, it took me 4 months to get my first job which is not on my previous field of engineering. di ko ineexpect na aabutin ng ganun katagal tapos di pa sa engineering field, medyo mataas ang competition, kulang sa skills and di pa sineswerte. hehe. sa mga naghahanap ng work, good luck sa inyo and don't lose hope 🙂

To answer this thread, it took me 8 months to get a job.

I arrived here April 2015. The first few weeks, chill lang ako mag pasa ng CV online through SEEK. Then after a month, wala pa din akong na receive na mga reply. I started to worry. Although I've heard stories before dito sa forum na mahirap maghanap ng work dito, I never realized that it is really that tough and frustrating. Days turn into weeks, then months. Left and right ang rejections ang inabot ko. Plus the pressure from my friends checking me from time to time if I already landed a job. Na stress ako lalo. Kahit mga hospitality jobs mahirap din maghanap. Cleaning naman wala din ako mahanap.

July 2015 nag decide ako mag take ng short course sa TAFE (Cert III). Gamble talaga yung savings ko. While studying, continue pa din ang apply ko ng jobs. I could send 100 + applications in a week. As usual, kumakain na naman ako ng 'i regret to inform you...'.

Nov 2015 - habang patapos na yung course ko , I got a call for an interview. This is the same company I applied for last May 2015, but failed the interview. Back then, I prepared naman and practice for interview. I was even confident pa, pero nung nag ask ako ng feedback, they wanted to hear 'more' related dun role (Application Support/ Service Desk). So nung nakita ko na nag post sila ulet and the same role, sabi ko this time, i will take into consideration yung mga feedbacks. Sila lang kasi ang tumawag sakin for interview. This is a government post, so I had to prepare the lengthy 2 pages 'statement based on selection criteria', apart from the CV. When I got a call for an interview, I asked to be scheduled 4 days later. In that 4 days, I looked and paid for a professional consultant that advice and gave me mock interviews ($290 - ang mahal for 2 hours!!). For government post kasi, based on merit, kaya the more you talk about the role based on your past experience, mas high ang chances mo. Nakatulong talaga yung advice na binigay ng professional. Inde lang pala talaga puro confidence lang, dapat may content din when it comes to interviews.

December 2015, I got a call from them na i was unsuccessful for the permanent role BUT they offered a temporary full time job for 6 months with possibility of extension. Yung feeling na inde mo ma explain, parang napa tears of joy talaga ako that day. Iba pala talaga pag sobrang na deprived ka. I could only feel the same way sa mga kapwa ko pinoy na struggling din maghanap ng trabaho dito. Like you, i underwent into depression (pero yung inde naman na ma aaning hahaha), nag stress eating ako. Ayun yung mga business shirts ko inde na kasya kaya napabili ako nung boxing day sale. I'm just so lucky that I got my family here. Pano pa kaya yung iba na wala at nag gamble talaga,tas may family pa with kids.

I will start to work this Monday na, 11 January 2016. I hope my story will inspire others, to never give up. I could only speak for myself. Yung cert III ko sa TAFE (IT networking) nakatulong na maging preoccupied yung mind ko with assignments and practical activities plus you get to be surrounded with people whom you could talk to. And the interview coaching, I can share yung slides na binigay sakin to those who would like. Just pm me 🙂

Sa mga PR holders, may nag inquire na ba sa Centrelink about sa paghahanap ng job? Sa PDOS kasi sinabi ng speaker na pwede daw lumapit sa Centrelink yung mga migrant na naghahanap ng work. I'm not sure how does it work and currently nagbabasa ako sa site ng centrelink about it.

Pero kidding aside, thank you for sharing your story... mas mamumulat mga mata naming migrants na papadating pa lang, and those who are in the visa application stage, sa harsh reality ng paghahanap ng trabaho dyan... to prepare our skills and finances bago pumunta ng Oz... Hindi enough na puro lakas ng loob lang

@RED Thanks pre. Magstart na rin ako ng work this wednesday. hehe sawakas after 3 months din. Sa IT parin pero di related sa expertise ko, pero programming rin.

@ironman_gray22 I just arrived here in Perth at nag-inquire ako last week sa Centrelink. Wala daw silang job assistance na binibigay for new migrant. At since single ako at walang anak, I can only avail of centrelink benefits after 2 yrs or balik daw ako pag may anak na ko haha! they told me, basically i'm on my own for the next 2 yrs. 😃
