NAATI - CCL exam - additional 5 points for 189/190 visa

edited August 2018 in Queensland - Brisbane
Hi,

For those who were already in Australia, and were short by 5 points for Visa 189/190. This is our chance to claim additional 5 points by passing NAATI - CCL (Filipino) exam.

As part of certain points-based visa applications made to the Department of Home Affairs, individuals who pass the NAATI Credentialed Community Language Test can claim Credentialed Community Language (CCL) points (sometimes referred to as the ‘five bonus points’).

Meron ba dito naka schedule na or nagbablak kumuha ng CCL exam to claim additional 5 points? Baka pede pa share ng materials/reviewers niyo. May practice set na binigay si NAATI pero I think it was not enough. Sa mga nakapag take na please share your experience. I exam is scheduled on October. Please share some tips.

    A friend took the exam and she passed; she said it was not that difficult, but just need to really focus on studying. I haven't asked her yet which materials she used; I'll try to ask next time I talk to her.

    @MLBS
    @kapitanyeda
    @ajdee

    I got the result a week before Christmas and I passed it (YEHEY!). The best gift for Christmas.
    This is my 2nd take, and let me share my experience to you.

    Yung 1st take ko, hindi ako nag handa. Umasa lang ako sa 2 dialogues from NAATI. Hindi talaga sapat yon. Tapos 2 days lang ang nag practice, then yun nga I failed the exam.
    Sa 2nd take ko, sinabi ko sa sarili ko na I'm not gonna waste $800+, so 1 month ako nag prepare. Nag gather ako ng resources online. May website na pwedeng mag practice. Mandarin- English siya, pero ginamit ko yung english script. Very helpful. Naging praktisado ako sa Eglish to Filipino interpretation. Moreover, I asked my filo friends to record a dialogue in FIlipino, then I interpret that to english sa harap nila mismo para ma assess nila ako, and they give me feedback. In that case I realised my weaknesses and things to improve. Napaka limited ng materials na available, but if you really determined you can always find a way to practice.

    CCL Pros
    - Just practice you Speaking and listening skills + good taking note skill.
    - You have 2 lifelines:
    1. Self correction. You can correct yourself just say "I would like to repeat my interpretation", this is one of the examinee liefeline to save his life, but beware ka lang dahil too much self correction may deduct your points.
    2. Playback-Replay. You can ask to replay the dialogue. This is another lifeline of the examinee to save their day, though you are only allowed to use this for two times per dialogue, so use it wisely. You can reuse this lifeline more than two per dialogue pero checker will deduct some points.
    - Concentration is the key. Tahimik ang paligid, dahil ikaw at ang proctor lang ang nasa loob ng room. Unlike sa PTE na parang palengke ang scenario during speaking module.
    - 10-15 mins and you nare done. Hindi exhausted ang entire exam, and it will only last for couple of mins.

    CCL Cons
    - Though may criteria of scoring pero I find it very subjective padin ang scoring dahil real human ang mag ssccore sayo unlike sa PTE.
    - Mas mahal siya compare sa PTE. It cost around $800 + GST
    - Currently sa Aus lang siya pede itake
    - 8-10 weeks ang result. ANong petsa na?
    - Passed or failed lang ang result unlike sa PTE if you hit certain score you can claim certain points (e.g. 65 = 10 pts)

    My personal tips:
    - Research the Filipino translation for diffcult words in medical, legal, Finance, and other related words. (e.g. Hika, Nasasakdal, tubo etc.)
    - Mag practice. Manood ng TV both LOTE and English. Then try to interpret their scripts.
    - Mag practice ng note taking, technique and make sure you can understand what you have written.
    - Talk to your proctor before the exam begin. Like kamustahan, observe the room. Pampawala ng kaba, and hinga ng malalim.
    - Just listen to the recoder na parang barakada mo lang yung pinakikingan mo, in that way mawawala ang kaba mo.
    - Imagine what the recoder says. Namnamin mo ika nga. Imagine that you are in the real life situation base sa sinasabi ng recoder. In this case hindi ka mahihirapang tandaan yung dialogue.
    - Say what you mean. Kapag i-interpret mo na ang script. Say it with emotions. Bigyan ng diin ang mahahalagang detalye. In this point checker will realise na confident ka sa interpreation at tooong nauunawaan mo ang dialogue.
    - Mag relax before the exam. Matulog ng maaga at gumising ng maaga. Makakatulong na ma obserbahan mo o maging pamilyar sa testing place para mawala ang kaba, at makahanap ng makakusap. Talk to your fellow examinee, ask them how they prepare, and you will know that you are not alone that facing the same situation.
    - Make sure na nakapag almusal ka before the exam. Brain will not work properly if you did not eat.
    - After the exam. Leave the place immediately. Take down the words na nahirapan ka i-translate. Makaktulong ito para i-assess ang sarili mo kung naitawid mo ang exam ng maayos.
    - Lastly, mag pray. If you do your best the exam then God will make the rest.

    Goodluck!!!
