    guys.. given the trend right now.. i think that there will come a point where even for the 60 pts.. there's no need to wait for 2 months.. the invitations might already catch up with the number of EOI currently in the database.. the challenge right now is not on getting the invites.. but getting the needed band score in IELTS.. :-)... just my opinion...

    Yesterday my husband received the email from Skillselect saying that he can already lodge the visa. The email states:

    ============
    Congratulations

    You have received an invitation to lodge a Skilled - Independent (Subclass 189) (Permanent) visa application nominated/sponsored by your family member.

    =========

    We are just wondering how come they put "nominated/sponsored" by your family when subclass 189 is actually independent visa and also we don't have any family to nominate us. I find the email confusing. May I know if you also received the same kind of statement?

    question.. i read somewhere sa 189 na there are exemptions for ielts.. so like me i'm a new zealand permanent resident though not a citizen would i still warrant the exemption for ielts?
    sabi kasi dun sa 189 may mga exemption for countries like nz/ uk for ielts..
    kasi my ielts is already 4 years old though i did get 8 in all of it kaya lang super expired na yun and it seems na redundant na to retake ielts when i have lived in nz for almost 4 years or so then now in au.

    if i am not mistaken, exemption from taking the IELTS is only if you have passports from UK, US, NZ and the likes.

    For PR in NZ no choice but to retake.

    The threshold English language requirement is Competent English, which is a minimum score of 6 in each of the 4 components of the International English Language Testing System (IELTS) test or other language test as specified by the Minister. For some occupations, the assessing authority may require a higher level of English as part of their skills assessment process.
    You also meet the English language threshold if you hold a valid passport from, and are a citizen of, one of the following countries:
    • the United Kingdom;
    • the United States of America;
    • Canada;
    • the Republic of Ireland; or
    • New Zealand.
