    With a family?

    Money : )

How will you bring those things? 20 kg per person is the usual baggage allowance.

If by freight, usual time it takes is 8 weeks so you still need to buy something to use.

Most important thing to bring is still money;)

thanks li_i_iren. of course money is given. baggage allowance may not be a problem because we could claim extra thru iom.

I guess just bring the essentials that you'll need to survive in the first few weeks.
I think documents such birth certificates, marriage certs, your childrens vaccine records, etc... at some point, requirement to present these doco will pop like in school and in some of your applications.

Suggest not to bring too much because once you are settled in here, you start buying some of these items and next thing you know, the things you've brought from overseas are no longer needed.
Sa ngayon, marami kaming items na in good condition pa pero kailangan narin idispose kasi it's eating up the space in our house. minsan dinadala nalang sa mga charity bins

@psychoboy regarding baggage, iom can give 2x23 kgs/person except for infants. so I just want to maximize what could I bring within that limit. for example 3 persons x 46 may just be enough.

@schorcher many thanks. what are those essentials considering we'll be moving without work yet. as I also understand apartments are usually unfurnished.

if you arrive here during the winter season, you need to have jackets, jumper (or sweater sa atin) blanket (not the ones we usually have in Pinas but those thick ones usually made of fleece), thick socks. A lot of these can be bought at reasonable prices from Kmart, bigW or Target.

Also, If you are not aware yet, that there are items that are not allowed in OZ. items made of wood, food, pirated copies of films.
If any of your family is under medication, please check with the www.health.gov.au if the drug is OK to be imported.

There are semi-furnished units and apartment na merong fridge ,stove, bed and sofa. You may want to try that first then move out to house after once you can already afford. Contract is normally 1 year though there are some properties that will accept 6mos. The problem is that, it would be difficult to get a property to rent if non of the would be tenants has a job. Some families, they rent a room from friends or people from this forum while looking for a job and move out once they start earning.

@scorcher wow! this is what I really wanted to read. very well explained. from to-bring items up to renting a house. but another question that comes to mind is, do tenants allowed to rent even if working on causal job as long as he/she is earning?

thanks for reminding about the banned items . I also heard about this during cfo seminar.

@ozzieness sets of clothes & shoes for different season. Apparels are much cheaper in Ph & Sg as compared to Oz.

Your kids school records, baby book, vaccine certificate, if catholic might as well secure a copy na din ng baptismal (sometimes requirement sa catholic school) & confirmation certs.

As much as possible, reference letter from your previous manager/employer, suggestion din 'to sa ibang forum especially if you don't have local experience yet. Laptop & printer, power adoptor/plug.

A few medicine like paracetamol & antihistamine. Thermometer for your kids & also first aid kit.

These are also a just suggestion from my friend in Oz. :)

Dont bother with a printer.. U can buy one for 50 aud at dick smiths. Dont bother also with blankets.. You can buy at target, big w or kmart.

The reason i said money kasi most things you would still likely buy din naman once u are here,

Just pack clothes, meds, documents.. Household items can be purchased here.

Personal experience from moving from pinas.. To nz to oz.. If you have such a heavy baggage it can be a big hassle while at the airport. Mahirap mag tulak ng trolley na mabigat with the kids.

Also take note.. Is someone picking you up from the airport? If yes din ok lng heavy bags. If not.. Hirap mag taxi, bus or train with heavy bags.

Do you have a permanent place to stay rightt away? Same reason.. Hirap magbuhat if lipat bahay mode pa.

But if yes ang answer mu im the 2 question then why not..:) to each his own.

Do not bother sending your items through seafreight. It can most likely cost you more than a thousand dollars including all local handlng charges here and it is too much of a hassle when clearing it from customs if you do not have a customs broker.

    You have 2 options

    1. Hire a car
    2. Go for a group airport shuttle service

gaano kalayo ung tutuluyan nyo? ... if it would only take a couple of minutes I would suggest that you go for a taxi, if its more than an hour then go for the shuttle

hinahanap ko lang mga links will get back to you

google "shared airport shuttle sydney " without the quotes

Hello! My husband and I are still in the first stage in our visa application. This forum is very helpful and I'm so grateful to be part of it. My question is we are bringing our 6 yr. old daughter and 2 yr. old son. Someone mentioned it is not advisable to bring food. Would that include milk for my 2 yr. old? Thanks in advance!

    based on own experience :D

two areas on two things here

    Airport of Origin

    1. only 100ml bottled water are allowed per passenger. in your case you can bring 4 x 100ml. Just make sure you have 4 separate bottles. Dont hesitate to bring more, there are cases they would allow more than what i mentioned. If not, you can always ask hot water/warm water during in flight service

    2. Milk (powder). No issues here.

    Airport of Destination (Australia)

    1. no issue on how much water you have in your bag
    2. Milk if properly labelled and secured (e.g. in a plastic tub or box or in original container) are allowed by Australian Immigration and Quarantine staff.

Just remember to 'Declare' ALL food in the incoming passenger card. Officers will sometimes inspect it but if you declare it there is absolutely NO reason you will be in trouble.

Thanks so much Envy! And we have the same concern ironman_gray22. Someone mentioned in this forum that what most people do is one of the applicants (husband or wife) goes to AU first, secures a job, then later na ung ibang family members. Pero question ko din is do you apply visa as one unit? or dapat if hubby ang mauna, sya muna mag apply on his own. pag may job na then mag apply na ako (primary applicant) and mga kids ko a few months after. Mas gastos ata if separately mag apply. I'm not sure din what is allowable.

@bumblebee hi, mas magastos nga pag separate pa.. kung kaya nman ng funds nyo na include na kyong lahat, isabay nyo na... then same plan nyo, isa lang muna punta dun to secure a job... tsaka nlang kyo sunod ng mga kids nyo pag me work na partner mo dun... yan yata ang best strategy.... just my two cents

    @bumblebee

    both options are allowed.

mauna ang partner mo then sumunod na lang kayo as dependents or do it as one unit.

agree with @littlefinger but will always depend on your personal situations, kung makakuha na kayo agad ng work (pareho kayo), why not? or kung may family or relatives kayo to support you?
