How will points be allocated for the 491 visa?

There is a revised points system for the 491 visa so you have new ways to earn points towards your score. You will get:

15 points for nomination by a family member or a regional part of a state or territory
10 points for Masters or PhD level Australian qualification in specific areas (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics - STEM). This change is driven by the importance of STEM skills to Australia’s ongoing innovation and economic success.
10 partner points, if one of the following apply:
    a. You have a skilled partner. This means that your partner is under 45 years of age, obtains a positive skill assessment in a job on the same shortage list as you and has Competent English; or
    b. You are single; or
    c. You have a partner who is an Australian permanent resident or an Australian citizen
5 points if your partner who can demonstrate Competent English. The partner can be over 45 years of age and does not need to work in a skilled occupation

Points will still apply based on your age, qualification, years of overseas and/or Australian skilled work experience, Australian study and English skills, as they do under the 489 visa and other skilled visas.

@RodSher I would definitely also consider student visa in case the trends continue to be unfavorable by around September/October.. Although, I'm still hoping I can add 5 partner points to improve my chances.

by the way, about 491 visa.. if you have a skilled partner by Nov 2019, does it mean you can add total of 15 points based on the following criteria?

"a. You have a skilled partner. This means that your partner is under 45 years of age, obtains a positive skill assessment in a job on the same shortage list as you and has Competent English;..."

"5 points if your partner who can demonstrate Competent English. The partner can be over 45 years of age and does not need to work in a skilled occupation"

or you cannot claim for both?

@JohndAU - 15 points for a skilled partner is base on current circulation. However, We still need to be watchful on the implementation phase, if 15 points are really final addition. Have you done with your English test though?

@RodSher I'm done with the test and I can only get maximum 75 points due to age.. My wife is trying PTE and hopefully we can avail of additional 5 partner points.

@JohndAU same with me that's my maximum points as well - we've got a slim chance for visa 189 and 190. The remaining options are visa 489 or student visa.

@edmariel I have the same points for one year now, 80 pts kung kasama na ang addtl 5 pts from State. unfortunately, no invite for SC190. if Immitracker truly reflects the trend, 85 pts lang talaga ang na-invite so far this year, kasama na ang addtl nilang 5 pts. by the way, I've read from other threads that you are in Australia now... does this mean you still need a PR visa?

Hi po, yah, actually we’re already here in Perth with my husband. I’m holding the same visa as him. He’s working here under 457. I’m finding a way na mapabilis sana for PR, coz there company can only sponsor after 3 years, unfortunately pasok kasi sya don sa bagong revision last year. Previously it’s 2 years lang. So ginagawa ko na lang ngayon is to complete my CPA status here. btw, late next year pa kasi pwedeng syang masponsor. What do you say about this? Hintay ko na lang yon or find a ways to increase our points? Salamat po. 🙂

@edmariel I honestly don't have much info on options shifting from 457 to a PR visa.. but I would expect it would be better to increase your points especially that you now have the advantage of being onshore.

@edmariel 85 points ang invited last April based lang sa immitracker but fortunately I was reading the May 2019 batch discussions, and saw @mabelledita got invited under 190 last May and she has 80 points without SS points.. kahit papano there is hope for 80 pointers.. although on my part, I'm still at 75 and hoping to avail of the addtl 5 points soon.

@angela10 anong ANZSCO code ang gusto mo ipa assess? you seem to have a lot of experience in audit. If internal auditor, that would have to be VETASSESS. if external auditor, there's CPAA etc.

    Good luck!

@hopefullyoz thanks for responding. Internal audit current experience ko now. I think better ata sa VETASSESS. pero,, would this affect the number of years na work experience? magiging 5 na lang ba? or combined 10 yrs pa din for points?

@angela10 we have a very similar set of career background, only mas mataas yong mga experiences mo. I can only speak based on my experience with CPAA.

I have 2 years external audit, 4 years business controls, and 2 years internal audit (current), in that order. Banking on the hope that my business controls experience would pass on as Accountant, I had myself assessed to CPAA under the ANZSCO code 221111. They counted all my experiences as relevant for Accountant - General, thank God.

Ang alam ko on VETASSESS, medyo strict sila on proving that your internal audit department is independent. Parang it matters to them (a lot). I have no firsthand experiences with VETASSESS, unfortunately. I know there's a separate thread on Internal Auditors here, go find them.

Also, maybe you want professional advice? Go find a reputable one :-)

    Good luck, amiga!

Wow nakapagpassess ka na pala. congrats! If you don't mind, how much paassess?

I see. kaso parang mas in demand yung accountant e.

Unless mag master dito at PY. Grabe tagal pang abutin. Ang dami ng may matataas na points.

@edmariel nakakalungkot nga mabasa ang additional requirement ni NSW.. supposed to be my only chance for a PR visa.. sa sobrang taas ng reqd for 189, di na ko umasa sa kanya.

Does anyone here know how to get a DAMA employer? I’ve been trying to find sites discussing this specific topic but could not find a good one...

Hi everyone. ask ko lang po honest opinion niyo. is it better to wait til Nov sa mga changes sa visa points or mas okay na magstart na now? I am planning to apply with hubby.. we are both CPA though IA current ko and finance maanger siya. siya gagawin namin main applicant kasi mas okay credentials nia. our max points will be 85 for 189 (if superior english and excluding NAATI). kinabahan kasi ako kasi diba sa novemebr ung 190 ang dami na restrictions (limited states) lalo? thank you everyone! :)

@angela10 I suggest submit EOI asap and not wait for November. As far as I know hindi pa clear kung anong gagamitin na lodge date, will it be all eff nov or automatically calculate addtl points making use of the old eoi submission dates. And who knows, sana lang may ibang magbukas na opportunity for Accountants before november..

@JohndAU nakakalungkot nga talaga latest news ngaun. Nagstart pa lang nga kami mag gather ng docs for my Husband assessment. So malayo layo pa din para makuha namin yong max points. But trying hard na maasikaso ASAP.

@JohndAU try mo kayang mag visitors visa muna dito para makapag take kang Naati. Not sure if allowed kapag visitors visa, pero parang nabasa ako somewhere dito na pwede.

Ang nakita ko dati is for 489 nila which requires a job offer. Yung sa NAATI nman, waiting na lang ako actually sa approval ng application ko for the test. Medyo masakit lang sa bulsa since I'll be coming fr dubai kaya dapat paghandaan.

@JohndAU keri lang yan, worth it naman after. Sana mainvite na din tau after makuha natin max points. Kaya natin to. Push lang ng push.

Kay NT pala kailangan ng JO, yong nakita ko pala sa Husband ko na SOL, which is di ko sure if kailangan ng JO yong statement nila.
