As part of the Migration Strategy, the Government announced that it would not provide any new allocations for the BIIP while a new talent and innovation visa was considered. The new National Innovation visa will be available at the end of 2024.

We will close the BIIP permanently from July 2024. We will not accept any new applications for the Business Innovation and Investment (Provisional) (subclass 188) visa. The Migration Review found that the BIIP is delivering poor economic results for Australia. Studies including work by the Treasury and the Productivity Commission support this finding.

We will process current Business Innovation and Investment (Provisional) (subclass 188) visa applications in line with Government priorities and Migration Program planning levels. We will also tighten BIIP policy guidance so that all business migrants coming to Australia must have had a successful business career and will bring an economic benefit to Australia.

If you hold a subclass 188 visa and meet the criteria for the Business Innovation and Investment (Permanent) (subclass 888) visa you can continue on this pathway after July 2024.

If you hold a subclass 188 visa in the Business Innovation stream or the Significant Investor stream you can still apply for the extension stream of the visa. This will give you more time to meet the requirements of the Business Innovation and Investment (Permanent) (subclass 888) visa.

Refunds for the subclass 188 Visa Application Charge (VAC) will be available from September 2024 if you want to withdraw your application. The department will give more information on when to withdraw and how to ask for a refund when they are available.

The Government is focused on strengthening the integrity of the Student visa program. This will ensure we grant visas to genuine students and give students who receive qualifications in Australia opportunities to contribute to Australia’s economic growth.

As part of the release of the Migration Strategy, the government announced changes to Student visa eligibility. These changes will restrict certain temporary visa holders from applying for a Student visa while in Australia.

From 1 July 2024, Temporary Graduate, Visitor and Maritime Crew visa holders will be unable to apply for a Student visa while in Australia. In addition to existing visas from which it is already not possible to apply for a Student visa onshore, the complete list of visa holders that will be unable to apply for a Student visa onshore are:

    Subclass 485 (Temporary Graduate)
    Subclass 600 (Visitor)
    Subclass 601 (Electronic Travel Authority)
    Subclass 602 (Medical Treatment)
    Subclass 651 (eVisitor)
    Subclass 771 (Transit)
    Subclass 988 (Maritime Crew)
Subclass 995 (Diplomatic Temporary) – primary visa holders only
Subclass 403 (Temporary Work) International Relations)) – Domestic Worker (Diplomatic or Consular) stream
Subclass 426 (Domestic Worker (Temporary) – Diplomatic or Consular)

Visa hopping has contributed to a growing cohort of ‘permanently temporary’ former international students living in Australia. These changes, combined with other measures, will help to close this loophole and put an end to this practice.

Temporary Graduate Visa holders should depart Australia, or find skilled jobs and/or other visa pathways, including those that may lead to becoming permanent residents of Australia. Visitor visa applicants who intend to study will be required to apply for their Student visa from offshore.

Student visa applicants genuinely intending to pursue studies in Australia can apply outside Australia. Those who meet the criteria will be granted a Student visa.

    From PH news:

MANILA – The Australian Embassy in Manila on Tuesday announced it will issue “work and holiday” visas to 200 Filipinos aged 18 to 30 years starting 2024 following a reciprocal visa arrangement between Manila and Canberra.

In a statement, the Embassy said the Philippines will be an eligible country for the scheme next year with the exact date yet to be announced.

“Prime Minister (Anthony) Albanese and President (Ferdinand R.) Marcos (Jr.) announced a new reciprocal Work and Holiday visa for Australians and Filipinos for up to 200 young people in each direction a year, supporting stronger economic, cultural and people-to-people links,” it said.

“The date and details on how to apply will be announced in due course,” it added.

This visa allows people aged 18 to 30 years to have an extended holiday in Australia and work to help fund their trip.

With this visa, the Australian Embassy said you can:

    • do short-term work in Australia to help pay for your holiday

    • study for up to four months

    • travel to and from Australia as many times as you want

One of the requirements is enough funding to support one’s self while in Australia.

The Australian Department of Home Affairs said this could be about 5,000 Australian dollars (about PHP180,900) for the initial stay and additional cash enough to purchase a flight ticket to leave Australia at the end of the stay.

The work and holiday visa itself costs about 635 Australian dollars (around PHP22,974) and will give the holder at least 12 months of stay in Australia.

The Philippines and Australia signed the memorandum of understanding (MOU) on the establishment of a “Work and Holiday” visa arrangement during the official visit of Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese to Malacañang on Sept. 8.

Under the MOU, both countries will grant eligible participants from both countries “Work and Holiday” visa which will permit them to stay and work in the host country for a period of 12 months.

“The participants mutually decide to establish a ‘Work and Holiday’ visa arrangement, to allow nationals of both Participants to stay in the territory of the other Participant for the primary purpose of a holiday, during which they may undertake work to supplement the cost of their stay,” the MOU stated.

The MOU will be valid for an indefinite period of time unless terminated by written notice through diplomatic channels. (PNA)

Practical ba to aim for this visa if you have a stable job? Are there limitations with the type of job(s) I could get / number of working hours / location of work? Say I'll earn a min wage, enough ba siya to cover the cost of living in aus? I understand it depends on one's situation, but I'd like to hear other insights.

Yung nakausap ko kasing western na naka WHV, parang to keep her busy ocassionally and earn on the side while travelling. Pagka expire daw holiday visa nya, travel to asia sya. So my impression is pang mayaman ito? Haha.

Haha.

You are not allowed to work with the same employer for more than 6 months. Kaya mostly ng naka WHV get farm and hospitality jobs lang. I went to Japan in 2019 and met a mexican lady who was on holiday there na nagwowork as a cleaning lady on the 462 and nakakaipon naman daw sya and she even has extra to travel around asia. Siguro you will have enough for yourself, pero don't expect na makakapagpadala ka pa sa Pinas.

same with NZ WHV! may the fastest internet connection wins labanan dyan. sabi ng friend ko, dapat talaga pabilisan magtype and submit!

plus maraming luck. first 200 who can pay the application, gets the slot.

and walang scheduled power interruptions sa area niyo haha :D jusko icharge na ang laptop na gagamitin at gumamit ng mobile data. Tinulungan ko mag-apply yung partner ko last year. Dalawa pa yung laptop namin nun kung sino mauna makapasok HAHA. Nagla-lag talaga yung Immi website on July 1st sa dami ng nag-aapply...nakakatense! After 24 days lang may visa na agad (462). Goodluck sa lahat <3

did u get a slot?? yung kakilala ko every year nagta-try, pinalad sya nung ika-4th year.

depende siguro sa goal. yung kakilala ko, hindi well off. applied NZ WHV kasi gusto nya maging PR in the future. pinag ipunan yung money requirement, di ginagastos hanggat di nakakapuntang NZ. tapos every year sya nagta-try. finally nakapasok sya last year!

he did get a slot on the first try! 4,000 slots naman kasi ang alloted para sa country nila kaya okay lang if medyo mabagal ang internet mo hahaha. For our passport na 200 slots lang, kelangan mabilis ka at favorite ka ni lord :D
