may thread ba ng PTE academic dito sa pinoyAU? Interested din kase ako jan sa PTE academic pero at the moment sa IELTS yung focus ko kase medyo malaking time na din na-invest ko dun.

hi @dirk_nowitzki, parang meron pero mixed about TOEFL and PTE yung thread. Madami na rin nagsswitch to PTE lalo yung mga applicants from India. Mas mabilis kasi lumabas ang results, in 24 hrs usually meron na. So malaking tulong sya para sa mga naghahabol sa age kagaya ko.

Congrats sayo sir. Galing naman. Nung nag exam ako sa IDP, eto score ko 8/8/6.5/6.5 R/L/S/W. Sana pala nagpa-remark na din ako ng speaking at writing. hehe

Based sa timeline mo, maikli lang interval ng 1st and 2nd IELTS take mo. Ano yun right after mo makuha yung result ng 1st nag-book ka na agad for 2nd?

Yup, after 1st result book na agad ako ng 2nd take. Medyo hinahabol ko din kasi yung quota pra sa occupation ko. Saka ni-treat ko ung 1st exam as practice na lang.hehe

goodluck pero medyo malabo na ang invitation mo for May 2015, parang almost upto ceiling quota na yung Software Engineer; tapos yung last round invitations ang na nainvite are from February pa.

60 pts din ako pag naka 7 na.
Ngaun inaayos ko din ung COE ni misis ko para maka extra 5 points sa partner skills.

Have you tried also applying for 190 sa NSW? Open pa ba yun?

^ hi @Abraham! this is my first ielts exam my speaking exam is not even finished yet.

I'm not just confident with my listening part of the exam may 4 questions na definitely hinulaan ko dahil nawala ako it's about the map/guiding directions.

I believe you can do it, there are a lot of online IELTS resources that are quite useful. I only had 10 serious days of reviewing so whatever the outcome is I'd gladly accept it.

So if I get a positive result, then I'd partake on sharing bits of advice to anyone.

hindi na ako nag apply for 190 pero I think open pa yung NSW.

uu nga malabo na talaga.
ready naman ako maghintay para sa pag reset ng quota sa July.
sana lang wala nman masyadong changes sa procedures at quota or sana kasama pa din occupation ko.hehe

@emily_strange: hi po! I've seen na third take ka din sa IELTS. San ka nag exam nun first two take mo? nagreview ka na ba nung third take mo. I'm planning to take sa BC SG ngayong May 9 sana kaso wala ng available online today.

IDP meron pa kaso yung first two takes ko sa IDP na kaya gusto ko sana sa BC na lang. since ndi me umabot ng May 9 baka May 30 na ako. pero plan ko magreview center. meron ba dito sa SG na mairerekomenda mo? thanks much!

@bait0211 : hi! I cannot recall where I read it from, but IDP was favored over BC, so I went ahead and took my 1st IELTS with IDP in Oct last year. Was short of 0.5 in my writing, so I took another one just last Dec 2014, again with IDP. Still short of 0.5 in my writing, so I took a break.

Then after I reviewed my notes again, I decided to try BC, since I know BC is a good institution way back in Manila. There will always be several factors why I got my score this time around, but I can't help but wonder what could have been my scores had I tried BC the 1st time.

Since I already have a family, I opted to save my money and reviewed on my own. But I know someone who took the BC review classes and it costs more or less 1k sgd. God bless on your next take!

@bait0211 When you register sa BC may general insights training for around 2.5hrs It helps candidates to be equipped on the exam. Free of charge, register ka lang as soon as you get the payment confirmation email.

@bait0211 last time na umattend ako ng general insights training conducted in BC, the examiner helped us practice some questions in speaking, tips sa pagsagot sa reading, listening and writing.

I only have good words for my IELTS BC experience, and I agree that they are organised in conducting the exams. Good luck on your IELTS exam!

Sa mga laging nagreretake ng IELTS. I suggest you try PTE-Academic mas madali sya compared to IELTS.

In my case, three times akong nag-take ng IELTS bago ko nakuha yung score na kailangan ko (which is atleast L: 8.0, R: 7.0, W: 7.0, S: 8.0) for a positive skills assessment.

When I registered for my first IELTS, bumili ako ng reviewer na Cambridge English IELTS 9 from British Council. Yun yung nirecommend ng staff kasi authentic materials siya na nagamit na from previous tests. Almost every day nagpractice ako for listening and reading. When I got the results from my first take, sablay ang writing and speaking ko, na feeling ko deserve ko naman kasi hindi ako nag-aral ng writing and speaking.

In preparation for my second IELTS, nag-review ako sa review center (MSA Academic Advancement Institute). Kumuha ako ng 16 hours total na review for writing and speaking. For me kasi, kayang i-self study ang listening and reading kasi objective siya, tapos may answer key naman yung practice tests sa reviewer ko. Pero yung writing and speaking, kailangan talaga merong magcocomment at magccritic sa output mo, para alam mo kung saan ka nagkamali at kung saan ka pa pwedeng mag-improve. Pagkakuha ko ng results dun sa second take ko, nagulat ako kasi kahit tumaas yung score ko sa ibang components, yung writing ko eh bumaba! So nagrequest agad ako ng re-mark.

Positive naman yung outcome ng re-mark, but still hindi siya yung needed grade ko. So nag-retake ako for the second time, and just like what they say, third time's a charm!

After sitting the test three times, feeling ko tuloy veteran na ako sa IELTS hahaha! So eto ang mga maibibigay kong tips para sa inyo:

LISTENING
-Wag kang mag-assume kung ano ang tamang sagot. Minsan kasi baka may certain answer ka na ieexpect na lalabas, tapos sa kakahintay mo sa word na yun, hindi na siya dumating at na-miss mo na yung answer altogether.
-Don't drift off! Pag nagstart ka nang magdaydream or mag-isip ng ibang bagay, consciously divert your attention back to what you are listening to.
-Make notes on the questionnaire while listening to the sound clip.
-Listen to radio recordings, podcast, shows in different accents. Sanay na tayong mga Pinoy sa American accent, so I'm sure hindi kayo magkakaproblema dun. Sa British and Australian accent mag-focus.

READING
Isa lang ang tip ko para dito: HUWAG magmamadaling magbasa! Ang thinking ng tao, kailangan magbasa nang mabilis dahil sa time limit. Pero sa totoo lang, mas magsasayang ka ng oras kung magsskim-read ka lang sa passages. Kasi ang mangyayari, makakalimutan mo agad ang binasa mo at kakailanganin mong bumalik sa article nang paulit-ulit. Don't get me wrong, okay lang naman bumalik-balik sa article, kasi hindi naman tayong lahat eh merong photographic memory. Pero, mas mainam kung babasahin nang maigi ang article, para pag may kailangan kang hanapin na sagot, alam mo kung saang part ng article hahanapin iyon.

WRITING
-Make a quick outline/plan on what you're going to write. This can help prevent you from rambling on while writing. Para alam mo (at ng checker) kung saan patungo ang mga pinagsususulat mo.
-Intindihin nang maigi kung ano ang hinihinging sagot sa tanong. Malaki ang mawawalang points sayo kung mali ang pagkakasagot mo sa tanong.
-HUWAG maging conscious sa required number of words. Mas malilimit ka sa mga bagay na pwede mong sabihin at mas masstress ka lang kung magfofocus ka sa number of words na kailangan kesa sa kung nag-iisip ka nalang ng maisasagot mo sa tanong.

SPEAKING
-Magpractice makipag-usap sa ibang tao gamit ang English!
-Hindi kailangang artehan ang accent. Mas may chance na mag-stutter ka kung magfofocus ka sa kaartehan ng accent mo kesa sa content ng sinasabi mo.
-Remember the acronym PREP as a guide for the long speaking part: P for purpose (what is it for), R for reason (what are your reasons for your purpose), E for examples (what are some specific examples for the reasons you gave), and P for purpose (restate your original purpose).

Hopefully makatulong itong mga pinagsasabi ko. Good luck sa mga magttake ng IELTS! Kayang-kaya niyo yan! Maniwala kayo sa sarili niyo.
