Finding a job as a Student Dependent

MielMiel BrisbanePosts: 11Member
Hi everyone, i'm starting this thread about finding a job as a student dependent here in oz. I am a dependent under subclass 573.

If under student dependent visa kayo please share your experience po.. thank you :)

Good for you na dependent ka ng 573 SV kasi limitless work ka. HTH, and build your networks din pala, makakatulong yan saiyo! Good luck and wish you the best.

Hello @Miel and @superluckyclover!

Almost 7 years ang experience ko sa IT, almost 5 years sa project management and 2 years as Business Analyst. Kaso under student visa palang kami, so part-time or 40hrs per fortnight lang allowed ako magwork.

Nagtake na nga ako ng RSA certificate training (Responsible Service of Alcohol) to boost my chances of getting a job like a waiter or bottle shop sales assistant. So far wala pa ulit tumatawag.

Good luck sa atin and subok lang ng subok. Walang susuko :)

Jan 2015 - My wife studied for IELTS (Academic)
Feb 2015 - IELTS Passed (minimum of 7.0 for Nursing)
March 2015 - Gathered requirements for student visa application
April 2015 - Lodged visa for 573 (Higher Education) for my wife (Nursing)
May 2015 - Student Visa approved!
July 2015 - Flight to Sunshine Coast

As of Aug28 - No work yet :(

Just to clarify, ang alam namin since 573 ang visa namin, 40 hrs per fortnight lang ang allowed na work. Pero unlimited hours kapag sembreak (i.e. Nov-Feb) So hindi siya limitless work.

@mmm_85 We are 573 Postgraduate by Coursework that's why our dependents are limitless work. Iba ata ang case ng Bachelor's? @agentKams am I right?

@superluckyclover yup subclass 573 Master's by Coursework will give the dependants work rights with unlimited hours.
@mmm_85 share ko lang po experience pinsan ng hubby ko whose wife is BSN as well when they started here, hirap po tlga siya pumasok sa trabaho before because of the work restriction. Later on po natanggap sya on a cleaning job na until now eh part pa din ng casual job niya dahil ayaw niya pa din bitawan.
about the unlimited hours on school break, i think the student is the only one who has unlimited hours not the dependant if the course is Bachelor.

@agentKams Correct, kapag Masters unlimited hours for both the primary applicant and dependent. For Bachelors degree (in our case), we have the same work rights (40 hrs per fortnight and unlimited hours on school holidays) :) Swerte ng pinsan ng husband mo kasi parang mahirap din ma-hire na cleaner. Usually nirrequire nila na may kotse ka, and ABN. Baka pwede niya ako irefer? Hehe saan ba siya based? Dito kami sa Sunshine Coast :)

Hi @Miel! Thanks for the info! Ako kasi IELTS nalang kulang ko and Skills Assessment sa ACS. Then from there pwede na ako maghanap ng employer that could sponsor my working visa (ENS or Employer Nomination Scheme). Pero yun nga, kailangan before magsubmit ng Expression of Interest (EOI) sa immigration, may positive skills assessment ka na and IELTS result na desirable. I searched a website na pwede magsponsor especially sa mga IT jobs, eto yung website nila: http://www.geoffreynathan.com/

Sa ngayon kasi ang focus namin is to generate income or cash muna for the bills (especially rent). Pero pag nakaipon siguro by end of this year or early next year, IELTS na titirahin ko and ACS Skills Assessment :)

    Good luck! :)
