@acrossborder I don't think it's an issue. Syempre mas gusto ng gobyerno na bumalik sa workforce ang mga matagal nang natengga. As long as your skill set / qualifications match *almost exactly* what they need, employers will be interested. Otherwise you have to really sell yourself, i.e. have a nicely tweaked resume, and do well in the interview.

@acrossborder they (prospect employers) might ask you what have you done on those times that you were unemployed. medyo magdadalawang-isip sila.

@sonsi_03 @acrossborder As long as valid naman yung reason for not working (e.g. child care, nag-alaga ng may sakit, nag-aral, sabbatical, etc.), I suppose they'll understand it if they feel that you are highly qualified for the job.

when you 'tweak' your resume in every job application and the recipient is the same (example: same headhunter, or when you're applying multiple jobs in the same company), any tips on how to 'nicely tweak' your resume?

Read the job description very well, and see whether your skill set really matches what they need. Then you can use similar terms from the job description in your resume.

how about when you're applying for 2 or more positions directly sa website or HR ng isang company lang?

Ganun din. Pero alam mo, never pa ako naging successful sa ganyan, yung tipong dalawang posisyon ang inapplyan sa isang company. Never had a call back. Baka yung iba may success stories sa ganyan.

medyo malabo nga kasi it will appear obvious na 'customize' ang resume mo sa each job description na bigay nila kasi isa lang ang recipient :(

Hi @graciecrazy09 - rather than solicit for sample CV and cover letter dito, I would suggest you take a look at the internet. there are a lot of samples all over, you just have to see and check what works for you... :)

Brothers and sisters, may natisod akong goldmine info source on job hunting in Australia. Good read ito - http://careerpotentialaustralia.com.au/
I think usung-uso dito yung resume writing service so kailangan mag invest na rin sa ganung service to increase our chances. Pati daw yung mag volunteer job on the side para magpakilala sa potential employers.

Hello po, I'm still no luck in finding a job here in AU since August 2014. I'm on my 8th month this april… Isang buwan n lng manganganak na ako :)) joke may interviews nman ako kaso hindi ako nakukuha…PMO ako sa Singapore. nakaka lungkot na rin. 8-|
Don't lose hope, makikita mo din ang para sayo soon. May casual job ka ba while waiting for the job that you are aiming for?

@brixx89 nagbalak akong mag apprenticeship during my first 2 months just to have an experience pero na realize ko parang back to square one yun since i was aiming for electrician license (electrotechnology trades) would take 4 years to finish the apprenticeship so naisip ko wag na lang. downside, mas mababa ang hour rate pag walang lisensya.

its good to get a course or further study as long as me pang sustain habang wala pang work. my wife took medical receptionist course for 6 weeks and she's preparing now to apply for jobs related to this course.

age care would also be an option. me mga 6 weeks lang tinatagal and minsan free pa sa course fee. just saying, mate. cheers!

@huggybear and @just_g29: ako almost a year na dito and just recently got an odd jod at casual pa. Super disappointing and frustrating ung feeling. Mahina rin kasi ang loob ko walk in pero it works esp odd jobs. Nagtry ako dati magwalk in sa mga factory and luckily nakapagwork ako dun pero one week lng ako pinapasok. Suwerte din I got this job now kasi may nagrefer sa akin.. Referral talaga is the best kaya need talaga madaming network.

Im currently doing a Diploma course online. Pero sabi ng marami Age Care daw ung pinakamaganda kasi maraming need at mabilis lang matapos. Im still on a temporary resident visa kaya costly pa sa akin mag aral, kaya tiis tiis lng.
