I'm an ACCOUNTANT - Student Visa or Permanent Visa? Will appreciate your advice

Hi mga Kabayan,

I'm torn between deciding on which Visa to pursue. I'm a CPA in the Philippines, with 2yrs work experience. I graduated from a school qualified as comparable to an Australian bachelor degree. Here are my options:

Apply for Student Visa NOW. Will require a lot more money but will give me a chance to earn my Masters in Accounting and work part-time. Hopefully find a good employer to eventually hire me full-time (if possible). And eventually apply for PR.

OR

Not to go through Student Visa. Instead earn points through Work Experience and English Exam while in the Philippines. WAIT until I earn enough points and apply for PR.

Any advice pls? I'm considering Money and Time.

Thank you po! :)

@AReyes you would need at least 95 pts to have at least a chance of getting invited without going here in Australia. the issue though is how are you going to get it? Here is a rundown on where you can get your points without studying in Australia:

Age : 30 pts (if you are between 25 to 32 yrs old)
English : 20 (if you have minimum 8 bands on each module)
Overseas Skilled Employment : 5 (if you have minimum 3 yrs work experience. You can increase this to 15 pts if you have minimum of 8 yrs work experience.)
Local Skilled Employment : 0 (since you don't have work experience in Australia)
Educational Qualification : 15 (since you said: 'I graduated from a school qualified as comparable to an Australian bachelor degree')
Australian Study Requirement : 0 (not applicable to you since you did not study in Australia)
Professional Year : 0 (not applicable to you since you did not study in Australia)
Credentialled Community Language : 5 (if you pass the NAATI exam where you would need to take it in Australia. No testing center outside Australia for this one.
Study in Regional Australia : 0 (not applicable to you since you did not study in Australia)
Partner Skills : 10 (if you are single, or your Partner has competent English and has positive assessment to their nominated skill occupation.)

To sum up the above, you would only get 85 pts if you satisfy all of the above requirements within the year of completing 3 years in your company. Wait for 5 more yrs to get 95 pts as you would have 8 yrs work experience by then but there would be no assurance how many points Australian Immigration are going to invite by that time.

But if you study in a Regional Australian university, you would get 10 more pts as you can get 5 pts in Australian Study Requirement and another 5 more pts for Professional Year. This 10 pts would only happen though after 3 yrs of studying and staying in Australia. If you are lucky enough to get a local experience while doing your Professional Year, then you can get 5 more pts after 1 year of working as an Accountant. If these pts falls into place, then you would have 100 pts within 3 yrs.

**Although, if you study in a State that sponsors their own International Graduates, then you would only have to finish your 2 year course then you can already apply as a PR under that state, you still have to satisfy though the other requirements needed for that State sponsorship. Each State has their own requirements.

@Jeric19 I agree with @frisch24, the minimum points doesn't mean much at the moment. As of January 10th 2020, people who were invited under the Accountant occupation for 189 visa had at least 95 points, and Date of Effect was April 2019 (meaning they had to wait 9 months to get an invite. For 190 visa, one was invited last year with 85 points, but the current trend is that cut-off points are increasing for pro-rata occupations like Accountants.
