the process as of now is like this.. pass the amc q..pwdi na po mag work even without the clinicals yet. but you must take the clinicals within 2-3 years of passing the amc q. the thing is since 2010 ata they now require all foreign doctors to do muna work in the rural/ regional or outback.. pero it is not bad work po.. starting pay for GPs is about 100,000 aud annually!!! starting pay po pa lang yan.. not including penal/ OT rates.
then after 3-5 years sa outback and given clinicals are finished then pwdi na po mag residency ULIT sa cities.. like another friend who is now a registrar (resident) in brisbane. she has finished her residency in the philippines but unfortunately that is not recognized in oz. kahit consultant level in the philippines..back to zero talaga in oz. there are 2 filipino doctors where i work, same story din.. tapos na sa pinas.. finished their exams, finished their stints in the outback and now work in sydney.
so what most filipinos do is become General practitioners. GPs in oz is a speciality!!! all patients have to go to the GPs.. you can't go to a specialist unless referred by a GP. the GPs are frontline doctors.. so what we are planning with my husband, god willing he passes his amc q exam is that he will become a GP then do his stint in the outback as a GP.
kunti lang po filipino doctors here who are specializing or who opt to go back being a resident..most will opt to become a GP for the following reasons:
1. GP pay can go upto 400,000 aud annually. remember lahat po ng patients have to go through the GP..some pay from their own pockets but since health here is subsidized, the govt. pays for check up through medicare.
2. pagod na po ung mga pinoy doctors... trained na sila sa pinas na parang trapo ung training , then study na for the exams, then stint pa sa outback.. medyo too much times and age has passed na to undergo specialist training ulit and when you come to oz with a very decent pay.. you would want to enjoy the quality of life na din kasi eh.
filipino GPs in sydney.. there are about 5 that i know of.. i don't know them personally pero nasa list of filipino speaking doctors po sila if you google them:) our GP from new zealand was a filipino and he has 2 filipino friends who are now doctors here too as a GP.
anyway, good luck to your wife!!! i hope you can share how her exam went:) God bless to both of you;) my husband will not take until next year..after his review with vmpf, he is planning to review one more time with rcgp kasi it will be here in sydney lang so quite handy before he sits the exam:)

Also, if your hubby is taking MCQ, I can share my experience with him, bago na po format ngayon. For MCQ, self-review lang po ginawa ko. Wala naman review centers sa Pinas kaya sariling sikap talaga. If you like, I can also give him my recall questions - questions na lumabas sa actual exam ko in MCQ. Baka makatulong because my exam is pretty recent.
Pero sa part 2, I plan to enrol in RACGP course na dahil mas mahirap daw. Sana may makasabay akong Pinoy. P.S. I was UP PGH din po. Ano specialty ni hubby niyo?
